I have cycled through this park a few times, which is a few miles from home. Despite its relatively small size, at times it feels that you are in a semi-rural environment despite being in the midst of a large city.
This is an absolutely fabulous park in Norwood. There are beautiful open spaces to walk your dog and lovely paths under trees. There is a huge lake which is home to many birds and wildlife. Very relaxing part of London. Can’t recommend enough to spend some time walking here and it is surprisingly quiet.
Dog walkers multiple times a day yet pretty poo free. Children’s play areas, one for bigger or braver kids, the other for younger. Random groups of people seem to be ‘Doing Things’. Lots of bikes. One lake, one stream, one pond or huge puddle. One very random collection of shopping trolleys behind barbed wire. Having been round here with a running group I can say that all the small bumps add up to make A Huge Mound. It is unbelievably easy to get lost in this small area due to the bumps and hills and fences and streams. It’s actually a labyrinth. It is however, not the countryside. It has tram stops at three corners and a main road on the other side. There are newsagents, a leisure centre and a train station. And it has all the problems of an unlit area in South East London, with hillocks and hedges and dark paths. But hey. You won’t go 2 minutes without seeing a dog walker. If you want to go at night, let us know what it’s like.
Fantastic country park to walk around, very quiet and peaceful. Lots of local wildlife and an excellent lake with view points and decking. A well run parkrun is hosted here every Saturday.
This park is a contradiction! Pro's: it is big, beautiful, has a butterfly sanctuary, multiple flowing streams, and a great duck pond with viewing platforms, it's easily accessible, has a nice children's play area, a fun Parkrun, and the best community kids-oriented Saturday morning activities. Con's: not looked after. Often dirty, stuff broken, gardening required around paths, feels a bit dodgy, and recently someone decided to resurface the paths with building waste including sharp glass, plastic, metal, wires, etc. Those in charge need to realise what an asset this place is and give it its deserved TLC!
Fun park with great paths for cycling around. Fairly flat so not strenuous and very quiet considering it's just off of a main road - great little escape after work. Not usually too busy.
South Norwood Country Park has nice trails and it generally feels like you could be somewhere out of London. A nice place to go for a walk. It can get very muddy during wet weather.
When I first moved to the area a few people warned me agains the country park but I absolutely love it and have never seen any trouble or anything that would make me nervous. Big shout to the volunteers who help maintain it whilst ensuring it is still wild enough for nature to thrive. A great place for a walk.
Situated next to Beckenham cemetery it is a large area with plenty to explore. There are paths throughout which bring you to a lake rich with bird life, child's play areas and small streams. Popular with walkers, runners, cyclists and a great place for nature photography.
This park was remarkable, while not huge, walking around the lake taking photos of the ducks, geese and birds was good fun for photography enthusiasts. I've provided some pictures taken with my Nikon during my venture through the park. Highly recommend for someone looking to unwind and relax. Fantastic.
