A lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Birmingham. There is a great bar downstairs. Unfortunately I didn’t get the opportunity to taste the food but I would expect the same level of service would have been used and the food would be great. Service was great and very friendly Rooms: Well appointed with a minibar, tv and other amenities. The en-suite was good with a rain shower and traditional head along with quality free toiletries. The only negative was that the bed was on the short side and en-suite toilet was slightly snug. But all in all the quality was far above many other hotels in the same price range. Nearby activities: St Paul’s is slightly out of the centre and has a number of other bars and restaurants within a short distance. If you want to head to Broad Street or other central areas it is a simple walk or cheap taxi
The location was very good and the staff helpful. However, the hotel fell below our expectations. At check in, we were advised that the water may be dirty and we should run the taps before use. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was that it had its own car park. On check in, we were informed that we would have to download an app for the private land to pay the car parking fee. When we said that we couldn’t do this, it took some time before the hotel would take payment direct from us. Our allocated room was on the 2nd floor but we found that the lift was out of order. In our room, the bedside cabinet was broken and the AC was not working. We had to go down to reception to report this. The receptionist came to the room and photographed the cabinet and agreed that the AC was not working and therefore would move us to a ground floor room. We were moved to another room on the same floor as there were no rooms available on the ground floor. The amount we paid for the 2 day stay did not match the quality one would have expected.First class price but third class accommodation on this stay.
We hired the terrace to celebrate our wedding at St Pauls House and had an amazing day - definitely recommend! The set up looked great, food was delicious and staff was really accommodating. Lorraine was really helpful before and during the event and made our day perfect- thank you!Rooms: 5/5
Beautiful boutique hotel, rooms were bright and spacious. Bar and restaurant area were great, food was absolutely delicious and it was all very reasonably priced too. Highly recommendRooms: 5/5
The only good thing about the room was that it was clean. Air con units droning loudly outside window meant that you couldn't open bedroom window, which you needed to, as air con unit not working in room. Plastic on flat pillows, springs in bed along with noise outside meant a poor nights sleep. In bathroom - no extractor working, loo roll holder loose on wall, shower rail falling off wall. Beware of shelf above sink when cleaning teeth!! Hairdryer cutting out due to overheating. No coffee or machine in room. Some lights not working, some light switches broken. Plug sockets faulty and only worked when plugs not all the way in and twisted! Lift out of order. All issues reported the morning after staying so hoping this is all fixed as the electrics were dangerous but only found in the morning or I would have asked for another room!! Not worth the money I paid for the room. Very disappointed.
Celebrated my 30th birthday in the private dining room. Food was delicious, service was really good and the room looked lovely. The manager Lorraine was so helpful and attentive. Would definitely recommend.Rooms: 5/5
Celebrated a 40th birthday, used their private room. Service and food were great. As a wheelchair user I found the entrance and exit tricky. They have brilliant double doors but up a slight curb. I found more confidence getting out the chair and stepping up and down. So something to keep in mind for those with more pronounced mobility issues.
A boutique hotel located at St Paul’s in central Birmingham. The room is okay size for one person, a bit small for two. The lift is out of order - not really convenient for people travelling with luggage. There’s no breakfast and no room service. Location is poor, as I had to walk 10min to get to the nearest grocery store and restaurant options are quite limited. Rooms: Okay for one. Small for two. Nearby activities: Very limited. Not many restaurants. Nearest grocery is 10min walking distance. Safety: Don’t really feel very safe to walk alone at nights. Food & drinks: No breakfast. No room service.
I was staying for 2 nights and advised the staff on day 1 but was told to tell the morning staff as i didn't want to swap rooms. I went down in the morning to be advised i should have said the previous day to which i advised i had so they made me check out and put all my things back in my car to later get back and find i had been given the same room. I also had a hair dryer brake on my which was scary as it got so hot so went to reception and advised i had to be out for a meeting in 10 mins and the lady went and served a gentleman behind me and he apologised to me as i was left stood there with wet hair and she advised 'I will deal with her after' then continued to check the gentleman out. She finally went and found me a hair dryer but i was then 5 mins late to leave. The hotel bar staff were great and the hotel was clean just a shame about the service at the hotel reception
I'm editing my review which was very helpful as the last 3 times I've gone I have noticed an obvious negative change in the place. So I've uploaded previous review so you can compare, removed other photos as menu changed. The last time went, will be the last and ever time I'll go, even my mum who said she loved the place and went for her birthday and recommended it for her sisters birthday. I've gone from giving it a 5 star to 1 star for the following: *From when we entered, there was no greeting like previous times, noone knew we'd entered or acknowledged us. *Menu changed an obvious downgrade, very standard to the prestigious one. Everything I used to order was not on the menu anymore, including the 2 sea bass meal options which were delicious. Only upside is the breakfast now being served later than 12 *Cheap straws that unravel after 1 sip no exaggeration my child got 2 then gave up * Was told there was a child's menu but not offered *Moving of tables being scraped along floor whilst eating, all of us customers were disturbed by this. *Customer service poor no, staff need training. *Not friendly atmosphere, felt uncomfortable whole time. *Usually extend parking but left within the hour just wanted to hurry up and leave. After ordering thought the service was so bad shall we leave but we were hungry. Don't even like writing negative reviews but was left with a bad taste in my mouth. Walkability: Walking distance from tram or public transport. Close proximity to other JQ hotspots.
