I have been using this garage for a few years now, bringing 4 cars in the last year. But now I'm very disappointed with the MOT on my partner's car. It failed on the front brake pad thickness and discs. These were replaced by the garage. All seemed fine but my partner complained of a banging noise when going over bumps. I thought it was the spare wheel which I tightened several times. When I next drove the car some 6 weeks later the car was fine until I turned into a bumpy country lane where it made an horrendous noise which I identified to be the front left. When soon reached my destination I examined the left side of vehicle and poked my fingers through the wheel spokes finding the brake caliper could easily be moved.  I removed the wheel the 2 retaining bolts were missing! I returned the car to the garage. They examined the brakes. They insist the car could not have left their workshop with the bolts missing. He did not point out any quality control system even a basic one where the technicians check each other's work. The bolts have locking compound on threads so there is no way they could have fallen out. I would point out that the caliper didn't come right off because there is only about a 15 mm gap between the caliper and the inside of the wheel. There are only two options here, the technician got distracted and forgot to put them in or I deliberately took them out. But why would I do that? The garage offered no compensation for the damage to the alloy wheel or the effort of recovering the vehicle. The only good will offered was a “good deal” next time. But I think we both no there won't be a next time which is a shame as I have been pleased with previous work and the garage is very handy to get repairs done while I'm at work.

Took my car to have brake pads and discs I had bought fitted as I couldn't find time to do them myself before MOT. What a mistake they flattened the sills on the car so I can no longer use the vehicle jack. They bent the back plate and now the brake pad warning light is on. They deny any fault and walked away swearing when I asked them to put it right. Do not use this garage.

I cannot praise SP McAuley enough. I started using them over three years ago when I moved into the area. I had an old Ford Focus, which they maintained for me beautifully. When the gearbox eventually gave out, I was astonished at the advice I got ... McAuley told me NOT to pay them any money to fix it, as the fix would be more than the car was worth. This is the first time in my life I can recall a mechanic actually telling me not to give him business. I bought a new Ford Focus, so didn't need to use McAuley for a while, as my new car had all it's services covered, but bought a 2nd car for my wife, and this needed servicing. She has just told me that a small fix they had quoted us on was charged at less than 50% of the quote because they managed to source the part cheaper. Once again they put the client first. I would definitely recommend the team at McAuley to anyone in the Newbury area.

Can't recommend them highly enough. A fantastic local business. Used a few times and always been faultless. Recently had an alternator fail on my wife's car. Car was delivered to them on a recovery firm flat bed at 11. They had it fixed and on the road by 4. Amazing!
