Come and learn what life was like for prisoners at Ruthin Gaol - their daily routines, what they ate, how they worked and the punishments they suffered (sometimes for stealing an apple!) Visit the condemned cell, experience the 'smells' and listen to stories of its most colourful prisoners.

We enjoyed a lovely hour or so wandering around with the very informative audio guide. Reasonably priced, clean toilets and a great place to visit. Would recommend.
Really enjoyed this little museum, fascinating to wander round. There's plenty of info on the walls but for even more I'd recommend the free audio tour. This is triggered by pads on the wall to give you even more detail aboit specific points of interest around the museum.nConvenient parking just over a little footbridge across the river. 2 mins walk away.nLoos in the basement.
We spent a couple of hours here and wandered around Ruthin itself. The gaol is nicely preserved and there is an audio guide. Only gave four stars because some buildings are not accessible but apparently that will change in 2025.
Kind of felt cheated on this visit, all the pictures you see advertising this place showing the pentonville style jail are out of bounds , you can see it and photograph it to some degree , but you can't walk the corridors on the different levels, it's locked off, if you listen to the Audio tour it does eek the time out but all in all I think we've been to better places
Enjoyed this place. Not big but packed full of enjoyable information.
