There is a fresh new management team running the Rowntree Park Reading Cafe.
Our mission is to bring a better service and experience to the York community.

Story

Comfortable surroundings and lots of literature to read or borrow. Breakfasts, homemade food with children's portions available and of course delicious cakes. Child friendly and wheelchair accessible. Please note at busier times you may be asked to situate your pushchair in a specific area so as to maintain clear access. Dogs welcome on the terrace and we offer a full library service! We have a quiet day on Wednesdays during school term time, everyone is welcome but please respect other library users who may wish to enjoy a more subdued atmosphere.Room hire also available. Honestly? It felt like sitting and lunching in Ellesmèra! Nature, good food and books (not necessarily in that order)... What more could a nature-loving, foodie nerd ask for? 

Not pricey. Indoor and outdoor seating options. Lots and lots of books of every genre on the shelves. Free wifi. Go alone or with company. I believe membership for borrowing and contributing books also available.

I will certainly be returning here again and again and again. For as long as I will be living in York.

A lovely cafe but not a place to relax and read (as the name suggests). The place is full of children at this very moment, so reading is virtually impossible. It would be good to have a quite room to relax in peace.

What a great little find. We found this place after a brisk stroll in the park and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Friendly service, great atmosphere, yummy coffee and the best bit was that we had to wait 10 minutes for the scones to finish baking! Delicious!
