Happened to see the sign whilst walking along the canal around 4pm. The gates get closed at 5pm so had a quick walk round. Cafe shut at this time but toilets open. Space to park and leave your bike, no dogs unless assistance, tidy walk round, plants growing naturally for wildlife, nicely fenced off. Lots of hides to sit and look out of, will go back and walk where I missed!
Beautiful relaxing place to visit especially in summer. Lot's of bird hides for watching and taking photos. A small cafe and toilets Easy access for the disabled And pond dipping for the small people And its free to visit The only downside is that it's only open weekend's between certain times and on Wednesday's I do believe, just check the website and it will tell you.
Beautiful nature reserve close to the centre of Leeds by the river Aire. lots of interesting wildlife to see and some very well placed bird spotting hides - make sure you bring some binoculars though. We were lucky enough to see a kingfisher feeding just outside our lookout - amazing. The little visitors centre is good and there's toilets there too
Lovely nature reserve. Obviously run by a brilliant group of volunteers. Visitor centre has a lovely little tea shop in it with nice views and it’s up to you to decide how much you’ll pay for your teas, coffees and cakes which is really cute. And you can pay by card. Little owl in the Manager’s Garden / feeding station area was our highlight. Peregrine perched on pylon nearby was a close second. The little harvest mice in the visitor centre were off-the-chart cute. Great to see conservation in action.
Today I visited with a group of toddlers. We drove in and parked at the first car park. It is very muddy so appropriate foot wear is needed. There is a disabled car park a further drive along the road. It's a little walk along a flat road to the first hide. It's all signposted. The children enjoyed opening the windows and looking for birds. We tried to match what we saw to the images in the hide We visited 3 hides, with good visibility. Spoke to some friendly helpful visitors who helped us spot some wildlife. This is a lovely free family attraction, with a cafe on site, we didn't visit that today. Check out their website as there are quite often events going on pond dipping, treasure hunts usually around school holidays.

Brilliant. Went for the first time on Sunday to do the pond dipping experience and we had a great time. The volunteers there were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We learnt a lot and found some interesting creatures in the pond. The cafe in the visitor was good, especially the homemade cookies. There was a live feed from a nearby kestrel's nest playing in the visitor cave and we got to see the mother kestrel feeding her chicks as we had our drinks and cookies. We will definitely be returning in the near future. Fantastic day out.
Amazed by the scale and level of management at this oasis on the outskirts of Leeds. A great mix of habitat and lots of hides made this a really worthwhile visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
This is a beautiful place to visit with family, young and old. The paths are level, with ramps up to the bird hides making it accessible for everyone, including those in wheelchairs. There are many ponds to look at as you walk around, meaning it keeps the little ones occupied too. Definitely a place I would recommend.
