The best thing about the hotel is its location, other than that there is nothing good. The bathroom door is very difficult to open and close and my hands kept hurting. The room does not have a window that opens and the room is hot despite the beautiful cold weather outside! Cleanliness is non-existent and there are nose stains everywhere and the carpet is non-existent and dirty. The breakfast is very little and there is no place to sit for breakfast because of the crowding.
I stayed here and was overall pleased with my stay. The staff were incredible! Friendly, helpful, attentative. I arrived *very* early, and the staff made sure that I was comfortable, fed, and made every effort to get my room ready for me. The breakfast in the lobby was quite good and the coffee too. When my room was ready early, thank you! it was a large room, but it was deceptively run-down. It was also not well cleaned, with crumbs on surfaces and floors, and strangely the pullout couch was made when it was only me staying in the room however, a quick word at the front desk and they came up right away to clean and change that! The location is excellent, 20min walk to everything, shorter for the big attractions. I was happy with my stay overall.
I’ve never stayed at a hotel with a nicer staff than the Residence Inn Edinburgh. The three women who worked the late afternoon to evening shifts were just lovely to talk to every night, and would ask us how our day went when we came back. The free breakfast offered a generous spread, and the blueberry croissants were just splendid. The hotel bar was better stocked than most and reasonably priced. Free laundry was also very convenient.
The staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent but, unfortunately, the newly installed AC unit beeped incessantly from the time of our arrival to our checkout two days later. We were unable to sleep and, though friendly, the staff were unable to resolve the issue during our stay. They did offer a discount to make amends, but only after a 3 am visit to the front desks and several follow up conversations with management in the morning. I overheard another guest complaining about the hotel ‘falling apart’ so our experience wasn’t unique. Perhaps wait to book your stay until after renovation.
In someways, a lovely property. Rooms are spacious and bright. Unfortunately, our stay was marred by a couple things. Most problematically, there were two fire alarms in two days. The second for the evacuation of the entire hotel at 6:30 in the morning. The staff explained this was down to an issue with a particular room, but it definitely started the day off in the wrong way. In addition, the furniture in our room was quite dilapidated. Stains, etc.A jarring note for otherwise positive experience.
