Great fare at great prices (especially the lunch menu!). Good selection of drinks on tap. I've stayed at the hotel side of things from time to time and have enjoyed myself- the beds are big and cosy, and rooms adequately provisioned. I usually end up with a twin sadly, but think that's the result of my work's booking system! A solid choice for a night to crash as you pass through the area.

Full Marks from Beginning to End The Red Lion punches well above its weight. I've stayed at plenty of more expensive hotels where the accommodation and service did not measure up to this level. From the high standard of cleanliness to the comfortable bed, the room was of an excellent standard. The restaurant, too, is frankly outstanding. Food is of exceedingly high quality, prices are fair, and the service is friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. Absolutely fabulous... This is where I'll be staying next time I'm in this neck of the woods.

Had by far the worst dining experience of my life here on 10/04/18. Ordered a steak cooked medium, It arrived well done and a peculiar grey colour. I took it up to the bar and the guy there told me it is medium, look at it. I said it wasn’t and he snatched it up and stormed off muttering in Spanish. A replacement was brought and was medium, still a funny grey colour, but I couldn’t cut it even with a steak knife. The waiter came over to ask if it was ok. I showed him it couldn’t be cut it was full of tendons or the like that ran all over it. He told me it’s medium, what you asked for. My wife tried to explain if you can’t cut it to eat it, it isn’t good. He told me very loudly that it’s fine it’s what you asked for it’s medium. This went on for a little while so I asked him if he could just leave us alone, he started saying really loudly just calm down over and over. I said I’d like some money taken off the bill as it wasn’t acceptable food. He told me to calm down again the took my plate off me and took it back to the kitchen muttering in Spanish again. I had no idea What he had said either time but it had ruined our evening as this was supposed to be a celebration of my getting a new job and was our sons favourite place to eat. He stormed past us a couple of minutes later again muttering something. We felt forced to leave even though my sons desert was pre ordered. He is by far the worst waiter I have ever encountered and it’s a shame that we shall never go there again despite having eaten there very regularly in the past. It’s a shame as every other time the staff have been so lovely but we won’t risk having to pay for the experience of having him serve us again. It was truly shocking behaviour. The girl I paid the bill to was very nice and gave me a 30% off voucher for our next visit but I’m afraid I won’t use it.

We attended a Wake at this hotel, the staff were helpful and the place itself is lovely, especially with all the Christmas decorations. The food was good for pub food but a bit pricey considering. The only other flaw was that the Wake had booked out a section of the pub, but when we arrived there had been no communication of this and so customers were sat in our reserved area. Given the delicate nature of the event it was fairly upsetting for the couple who had booked it. Luckily the people sitting there saw there were a lot of us and moved, had they not I'm not sure how things would have gone. Overall it's a lovely place though and I'd recommend going for a drink/gathering but be prepared to pay a bit more for what is essentially pub grub.
