Reckless Records

About

***Second-Hand Independent Record Shop in Soho, London***

Story

Reckless Records is an independent record shop burrowed in the heart of Soho at 30 Berwick Street, just off Oxford Street and close to both Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus Tube stations. Soho is famous for its lively culture and vast amount of record stores, it’s unfortunate that over time many of these shops have closed over the years but Reckless has remained strong and kept its reputation for years. There is also a Reckless Records in Chicago that was established in 1989 and still going strong. From June 2007 to July 2010 we were called Revival Records, but Reckless Records UK has been rooted since 1983.
We deal in second-hand music; LPs, 12" and 7" singles – and also carry a large array of used compact discs across a wide range of styles and genres – Rock, Pop, Indie, Metal, Reggae, Jazz, Electronic, House, Soul, Funk and many more. We also have many deleted and hard-to-find specialist and unusual CDs, plus some hard-to-find new vinyl.
We're interested in purchasing most kinds of music. Our main areas are Rock & Pop, Soul & Dance, Jazz, Punk and Reggae. We have specialist buyers and will purchase small or large quantities for cash or exchange. Our staff are here to offer you advise and help in all your musical needs, their steadfast knowledge and understanding of their specialist areas is available and we welcome people who require recommendations and tips for some hidden gems or musicians you may have been previously unaware of.

Still one of my fav record shops for serious crate digging as they get a lot of turnover of vinyl. Always pick up some tunes at bargain prices.
Didn’t find any vinyl today. Could be it was the end of the day. Usually this is a 3 star for me as I’m an avid buyer. However, they actually had used vinyl in the sleeves and some rare collectibles on the shelves. Rare Lady Gaga, Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift, etc. seems their forte is Rock IMO. Electronic and Hip Hop zone section was OK. Rock and Pop looked solid.
Picked up some excellent CD's from this store for myself and a friend - all in excellent condition, and, even one graded as 'marked but guaranteed to play', did so perfectly well and the actual mark on the CD was very small - but it shows they have an honest grading system and were happy to let me inspect the disc prior to purchase as I'm a tourist and live too far away to bring it back!. Love browsing for bargains here as well as at Sister Ray nearby.
Great selection of esoteric and world music at reasonable prices. Watch out for inflated 1st pressings of well known lps that aren't worth it. Plenty of good value stuff if you know what to avoid. Most sensible prices in Soho I'd say, lots of turnover keeps it that way. Staff aren't there for a chat so don't expect it.
I've visited this store a couple of times on business trips to London, and had varying experiences with the staff. The first time was a quiet afternoon and the service was very friendly. This latest time, I asked to see one of the records on wall-display. Initially received a friendly response. I then explained that I wanted to check things over at the back of the store where there's a lot more space and I wouldn't be in the way of anyone browsing. The staff member got quite impatient with me - they wanted me to check it at the front desk but were quite confusing about it and when I misunderstood they just got more impatient with me. Every record store has its own way of doing things, and that's fine, but patience isn't too much to ask for when it's clear that a customer is simply unfamiliar with the place/where best to check things. In the end, I felt very watched/rushed checking things at the desk with customers squeezing by and decided to leave without it. Customer service aside, in my experience the prices have been reasonable from what I've seen, and the grading appears pretty accurate.
A fantastic traditional music shop in soho. One of the few remaining record shops in the area. Great selection and friendly knowledgeable staff
Visited this store multiple times. I can always find something here, be it new or used. Price for new is better than many other store. U will surely leave with something.
I loved visiting the London Reckless after being a Chicago local for 8 years. The downside of the UK location is that they don’t have a database to help you look titles in stock in case you’re in a hurry to pick up a specific title :/ Otherwise who doesn’t like spending a la hour browsing through for a gem : The shop was small, cozy & staff was friendly! Will be back next time I cross the pond again
Came here for cassettes, they had like 200 of them! Great prices and different genres to choose from. Busy store with mostly vinyl and cd's, also friendly staff.
Wonderful shop. Went twice as selection and prices were excellent.
