Preston Railway station opened in 1838. Has a Victorian glass canopy. This station is an interchange on the West Coast Main Line; it is approximately half-way between London Euston and Glasgow Central. Staff are friendly. Main cafe is exspensive, eg 5.49 for a tea only large.
I would just like to thank a wonderful lady called Anna who helped me and my parents board a train to London Euston from Preston on 22/12/25. My parents are very elderly and she got us all onto the train only to find two of the three seats had been double booked. She very kindly sorted it out and put the much younger traveler in another seat so my parents could sit together . The train set off and it wasn’t until we got to Wigan North Western that she could get off our train and return to Preston to help more passengers. She could not have been more helpful and we were very grateful.
Great railway station One of the main ones in the north of England
Receives some love on reviews because of its Victorian canopy but the station is so outdated - not the best use of the space there either . There was a study a few years back saying how it is not up to scratch for the size and use of the station. It is a major gateway station and needs to so much more up to date . It is cold, not particularly accessible, scruffy and there are not enough toilets for the size of the station. Another Northern station in need of an upgrade/ modernisation project.
Preston Station is a lot bigger than what I had expected. The staff are great and there are lots of cafes, shops and takeaways.
