It was OK... I think I was expecting more to be honest but it ticked all the right boxes for what we wanted. The room was spacious for two adults and one child. Breakfast could do with an upgrade in general. It was very basic and if not included in my rate I wouldn't bother again. The hotel is undergoing some renovations which are kept very discreet and seem to be very much needed. Great location for day trips around the area though.
We stayed at this hotel for 1 night on our recent visit to Portsmouth and it was below average. Below is my comprehensive review of the hotel. Good: - The room was comfortable and dog friendly. The AC was set to the lowest but the air wasn't cold enough. - The bathroom was clean and had a shower. There were plenty of toiletries and towels. - Evening staff and restaurant colleagues are excellent and very helpful. - Large green area outside the hotel to walk the dog. Could be better: - Plenty of parking but you have to pay £5 for parking. - Wifi is an extortionate £10+ per night which is an absolute rip off. - 2 of the 3 rooms weren't ready by 3pm and we were asked to wait for an hour. No offer of a complementary drink or anything from the bar for the inconvenience. Overall a decent stay but lots to improve to come out of the big hotel chain type charges and service.
My family and I recently stayed at the Marriott Portsmouth over the bank holiday weekend 25/8/24 to 26/8/24 and were extremely disappointed with the service we received. As frequent Marriott guests, we expected a higher standard of hospitality, but this experience fell short. On the morning 8.30am of our stay, we arrived at the 'Heritage Suite' for breakfast, aware of the additional charges since it wasn't included in our room rate. However, we were told by the dining room supervisor that they could not accommodate us due to "400+ guests booked for breakfast" and were asked to return at 10 am this is when breakfast ends. This staff member's tone was loud and unprofessional, and instead of coming up with the solution of just charging the breakfast fee to our room, they cited a lack of "credit" therefore they could not accommodate us. This was both embarrassing and frustrating, especially since the restaurant had empty tables at the time we were there, and not all booked guests will 100% necessarily show up; some may choose to eat elsewhere, arrive later, or ultimately decide not to eat at all. We approached the front desk to address the issue, but the staff member there was equally unhelpful, simply suggesting we 'pre-book or add-on' breakfast in the future—something that wasn't communicated to us at check-in. The lack of effort to find a solution or accommodate us was disheartening and reflects poorly on the hotel's service standards. Eventually, after ordering breakfast from an outside service, a staff member came to offer us a table, but it was too late by then. They didn't inform us that they were discussing for options for us, which is why we ultimately decided to order food instead. The inconsistency and poor handling of the situation were disappointing, especially as my father, who is diabetic, needed to eat on time though I’m not suggesting this was the hotel's responsibility. I want to emphasise that the way your staff handles customer service issues directly impacts the hotel's reputation. It was evident that they did not attempt to assist us adequately, which was unacceptable. For future reference, please encourage your staff to explore all possible solutions before turning guests away. We expect better from Marriott and hope this feedback will help improve your service.
My stay at the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel was nothing short of amazing. The combination of elegant accommodations, outstanding dining options, excellent facilities, and impeccable service makes this hotel a top choice for anyone visiting Portsmouth. I highly recommend it and look forward to returning in the future.Rooms: 4/5
First night was OK, room was clean, who decided to put a 5 foot painting of a budgie in war time apparel on the wall at the end of the bed in a room suited for kids ill never know... ordered room service and half the order was missing and was laughed at and made to feel like we were causing an inconvenience. People on electric scooters right outside, the outside looks really nice but once your in you can see through the whole thing. Our room was right above an air-conditioning unit that was so loud we couldn't even have the window open. Never again, literally save the s*** and book a premier next time. Ohh and a little extra, when checking into a supposed 4 star hotel and the toilet paper is half used and still on the holder... I suppose that's where the rest of the stars were wiped away. Rooms: About as equipped as a world war 2 toilet...definitely not 4 star
Good location, decent hotel and lovely helpful staff on reception and in care of the rooms. Rooms were well cleaned and good space / facilities. Trip ruined by the awful experience at breakfast/dinner. Badly managed overall, lack of food at breakfast/ability to manage guests, and some of the breakfast staff were so rude to my family it was embarrassing. One particular lady with a red hair clip in her hair should really think about a career where she doesn't have to interact with customers. That was one angry lady.... have stayed in Marriott Hotel over 1,000 times in last 20 years and this was one of the poorer ones. Oh yeah, Mattress in the room was like a concrete slab too. Will take my back a week to recover from that... better hotels nearby..
The hotel is pretty decent overall, staff are professional if not overly friendly, which is fine. Breakfast is quite limited but good quality. Rooms are large, beds are too hard and pillows too soft but good quality, which might be perfect for some. My room had a shower over bath - why is this still a thing?! Who uses a hotel bath these days? And then there is a grab handle that protrudes several inches into the already narrow bath space! The most frustrating thing is that you have to pay for parking and for WiFi! Who charges for WiFi these days?! I probably won’t stay at a Marriott again because the price and the extras aren’t justified in my opinion.
Having stayed in the hotel for the night. I found the employees extremely helpful and couldn’t do enough for you. Having been in the cleaning industry myself for over 20 years, I was extremely impressed with the cleanliness of the whole hotel. I spoke to Karen in housekeeping and I was impressed with the work and she left the room immaculate. I can’t praise housekeeping enough for the job they do.The food is expensive but worth it. Great place to stay Rooms: The room was very clean and tidy. It was quiet Food & drinks: Food is expensive but worth the price
Rooms were impeccably presented with quality furniture and a lovely bathroom, well insulated from noise and a good climate control system. There was a good range of choice for breakfast and most importantly the staff were welcoming and always helpful.Rooms: 4/5
We stayed at the Marriott Portsmouth, a last minute booking as we failed to find a suitable hotel in the heart of Portsmouth. We booked for a couple of nights but had some reservations as it was not in the heart of the city or the seafront. However, the drive into the city was a short one and did not hinder us. Port Solent is a very short drive away and has good selection of restaurants. The stay was very pleasant and exceeded our expectations. The staff were always on hand and willing to help and the ambience helped us relax and unwind. The room was clean, nicely furnished. Karam at the hotel desk was exceptionally helpful when we made the booking!
