Wonderful design and atmosphere. It feels classy and old-world. I was welcomed warmly by the reception. The room was small but comfortable. The bathroom was clean and well maintained. A small television provided light entertainment. There was a kettle and complimentary tea bags, coffee and hot chocolate drinks. Plenty of towels were provided along with a bar of soap and small shampoo/shower gel bottles. Bring your own toothpaste. It was a very peaceful and quiet hotel in a fantastic location, being only a stone throw from the harbour and the Spinnaker Tower. Unfortunately, the only downside was that I was staying over during the hottest day in June and the room was swelteringly hot. Without air conditioning it meant I hardly slept. Thankfully, there was a fan in the cupboard which provided some minor cooling.
Fantastic! Six stars. It feels like a yacht club that became a hotel. Essentially, that is what happened. It was a Navy Hotel/Officer's club that opened to the public. Just steps away from the Portsmouth Harbour train station and the historic dockyard. If you are even mildly into boats or boating, this place will fascinate you. From the minute you walk in, you'll be greeted by a history dating back hundreds of years. The walls will echo British sailing history at its proudest. Great, friendly staff. Nice bar. Good restaurant. In room coffee maker complete with shortbread. Small, clean pool. Safe. Quiet. Great museum and pubs a few feet away. Book it! A couple of cons: Didn't effect my stay. The place could use a tiny bit of updating. Carpets are a bit old & warn. The west wing could use some paint. The rooms were not like your typical Holiday Inn. Ours had 3 single beds and 2 bunks in another room. Fun. So Navy! We didn't mind. Nearby activities: Portsmouth Historical Dockyard. The Hard. GunWarf
A big thank you to all the amazing staff here. Their kindness and professionalism was amazing. After a long trip back from holiday we managed to find the Royal Maritime Hotel like an oasis in the dead of night and had a perfect night's sleep. Will stay again next time in Pompey for sure. Rooms: Excellent
Stayed here for the Great South Run. Good location and room was clean and spacious. There was a wedding taking place downstairs and so my sleep was disturbed by noisy guests and the fire alarm going off twice during the night. Not much the staff can do about that I know, but it did affect my experience here. Rooms: Spacious, clean Nearby activities: Close to the train station and to the harbour. The shopping outlet is only a 5 minute walk. Walkability: Easy to walk to from the shops, harbour and station
Check-in was quick and easy. The ambience was pleasant. Breakfast: satisfied, can't complain Cleanliness: very clean and well-maintained Staff: friendly & helpful Room: well-lit, big windows, small TV, hair dryer, kettle coffee, tea & biscuits provided as well 1. Just remember there are a lot of seagulls in the area: you'll hear them all the time. It's bearable. 2. The only complaint really was inconsiderate guests who like banging doors very early in the morning.
Lovely clean room, shower was great the beds are so soft and comfortable. The location is amazing for the dockyard. The staff are all lovely and the breakfast was excellent so much choice and very tasty. I will definitely stay here again!!! Rooms: Clean and beds very comfortable shower is great best hotel I’ve stayed in great value!!! Nearby activities: Historic dockyard and Spinnaker also shops and restaurants Walkability: 5 mins to historic dockyard also Close to spinnaker tower Food & drinks: Excellent choice very tasty
I had to carry my baby in the pram up on the 2nd floor, because the lift was broken. The staff did not help and I asked another guest. I think there are only about 13-15 parking spaces, so end up paying extra for the car park. The swimming pool is only a little, and the jacuzzi was out of order. Amazing food, perfectly cooked breakfast!
Love this hotel!!! I Have been coming here very regular for a few years now to visit my son who served in the Royal Navy and wouldn’t stay anywhere else. The hotel has a very historic & Naval theme throughout and benefits from a pool snooker rooms, bar and separate restaurant. All the staff are super friendly and helpful and always look after me and my family when we visit. Everything is within walking distance and there is also circa 15 spaces of free parking out front. If that fails you can park directly across the road at the multi storey and received discount on your ticket at reception. They also offer 24hr parking tickets for the side street. Looking forward to my next visit. John Liverpool.
Great place in as much it is such a relaxing place to be in...fantastic staff who go out of their way for you..lovely rooms/great prices Breakfast out of this world they cater for everyone!!.. would reccomend you stay here.Rooms: 5/5
Please read the reviews before you book. We had an uncomfortable stay here recently, we booked through an agent and requested a 13:00 check in time, this was accepted but when we arrived at 13:00 were told rather curtly that "our room wasn't ready, wouldn't be ready until 14:00" We came back at 14:00 "room still not ready" We explained our check in requests and rudely told to sit down someone will inform us when it's ready. So we sat all the staff look thunderously angry, charging around and glaring at each other. After 30 mins waiting we asked reception how long we would likely have to wait? The reception manager was so rude, called me a liar regarding my check in request, even though I was showing him the message trail between myself and the hotel via the agent and walked away. We were wanting to get a refund and were going to go somewhere a little more accommodating when the earlier reception manager thrust our key cards in our face told us to go up the stairs and find the room! Wow the room, it was filthy, dirty brown marks on ceiling, peeling wallpaper and the smell of damp was awful. The bath panel as broken and stoved in, yhe bathroom walls had pinky/orange filth on them.. the shower didn't work so I called down to reception the lady I spoke to on this occasion was lovely, said maintenance would be up straight away Maintenance barged in, struggled with both hands to get shower working, laughed at me then walked out.. no pleasantries at all. After all that no matter how much brute force I used the shower did NOT work. The room was stifling hot, a small fan is provided in the cupboards though. The only redeeming quality this place had was the breakfast. Plenty of choices and a self serve hot plate it was lovely. When I went to check out lady sat behind the desk didn't even look at me, just took my key cards and grunted "checked out" We will never stay here again, the majority of the staff are beyond rude! We felt so uncomfortable staying here it made us anxious, the rooms are not cheap but the quality is shocking and their housekeeping need firing or retraining as its dirty, filthy in place.
