Lovely hotel, with lots of character. I found it clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful in showing me where everything was and answering my questions. There was also a useful info folder in my room. I liked that the bar was open late, so I could relax with a drink after a nice evening out. Breakfast was flavourful and filling. Rooms: I had a single room. It felt quite spacious with an excellent bathroom. Simply and comfortably furnished. Excellent nights sleep in the bed. Good size TV for the room and air conditioning by remote control. Kettle with coffee, and fair hanging space for clothes. Nearby activities: The hotel is right on The Hard, so you have Gunwharf Quays across the road with shops, bowling, cinema, and eateries. The Historic Dockyard is around the corner, with fun activities and interesting ships to explore. Gosport ferry, The Hard Interchange bus station with a tourist info office, and Portsmouth Harbour train station are also opposite if you'd like a day out further afield. I've been on a walking tour that started across the road by the Mudlarks statue. There's also the Millennium Trail to follow through Old Portsmouth and on to South Parade Pier. Safety: The hotel feels safe. The desk is manned, and the door is locked at 11pm. Guests can use the doorbell to be let in after that. There are a few steps up to access the hotel and a couple down into the bar, plus steps up to rooms, but there are handrails to assist with balancing. Walkability: Transport and some places to visit are within 3 minutes walk. Old Portsmouth is a short walk, and you can reach Guildhall Square in 20 minutes. Food & drinks: The bar was welcoming and comfortable. There is a small TV area. Breakfast was served in an attractive room and was delicious. Noteworthy details: This is a lovely historic hotel. Staff are quiet and capable. Facilities are good. I will be back to try lunch and dinner.
We stayed in a suite with sea view and four poster bed, the room was fantastic, bed very comfy and everything you need. Situated in a perfect spot for train, bus and gunwaufe shopping, lots of restaurants and even historic Quay with lots of historic amenities. Hotel has a restaurant and bar and breakfast is perfection. Lovely friendly hotel staff, very accommodating polite. Would highly recommend
The greeting when we arrived was wonderful. The room was very clean, and the bed was lovely and comfortable. Perfectly clean sheets and towels. The breakfast is very well organised, with well presented food. Great system of helping yourself to tea and coffee. But if you are unable to serve yourself, the staff will do it for you. Ideal location to visit the Historic Dockyards. So much to see and this is the ideal location to see it from. We have already booked to go back again as we enjoyed our trip so much.
Hotel situated opposite The Hard. Car parking at rear. Ideal location for train and ferry to IW and Gosport. 5 mins drive to international ferry port. Great location for the Naval dockyard to see HMS Victory and HMS Warrior and museum. Great location for the navy base. Several pubs and eateries nearby and Gunwharf Quays. Hotel has a step up then a stair lift. Once in reception there is a bar and restaurant. Lift to floors. Room clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the street on a Friday night is loud due to traffic mainly buses, trains, and people shouting. Not the hotels fault. Recommend ear plugs and keep window closed. Helpful reception staff. Terrible Internet. Routers needed.
Lovely old hotel but with updated and very comfortable rooms. Spotlessly clean, super friendly staff, nice breakfast. Limited parking but safe and secure multi storey car park just a minutes walk away . Ideally situated for the transport hub , Gunwharf Centre and Dockyard visitor centre.Rooms: 5/5
Amazing place to stay, staff were all really friendly and helpful Excellent location for visiting the local attractions. Walking distance to The Historic Naval Base. Room was very clean, breakfast was well presented and lots to choose from. Loved it so much we have already booked to return later in the year.Rooms: 5/5
This hotel was brilliantly located just across the road from Portsmouth harbour station. Apart from the shower where the water strength wasn’t very good, the bed was comfortable and the room adequately sized. Breakfast was included but was very average.
04/05/24 - 06/05/24 I didn't stay here but I stayed in the linked hotel next door. We came every morning to the captain's table restaurant situated in the keppel's head hotel for our breakfast. I noticed straight away how clean and looked after this place is. It was spotless and fresh. The full English breakfast was a bargain at less than £10 each with unlimited hot and cold drinks. It came out steaming hot . I was very happy with mine. The staff were extremely friendly on each visit. I will give my visit here a 5* Nearby activities: The historic dockyard is just 2 minutes walk away from here Food & drinks: The food was great value and there was a great selection of hot and cold drinks available here Noteworthy details: There is a stair lift at the entrance of this hotel, worth noting.
I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone who is interested in visiting the Historic Dockyard, Gosport and the Submarine Museum. It’s a brilliant location , close to everything and worth a visit due to its own unique history. It’s a comfortable place and the staff are so helpful and welcoming. Especially on the front desk and in the bar. I would definitely recommend and rebook next time I visit.
We stayed here on a Friday night for a wedding. I was worried about the parking as there is only enough spaces for about half of the rooms but we arrived just before 3pm and there were 2 spaces left. The car park is 2 buildings away from the hotel but clearly marked as belonging to the hotel and if you look at a satellite view of the hotel you can see it. You are allowed to park your car for 24hrs. The hotel is right by the entrance to the historic dockyard and across from Gunwharf Keys. Our room was clean and comfortable, nice white bedding and towels and a hot shower. We had breakfast in the morning included, and there was plenty of choice with a full English available, cereal, toast, pastries, yoghurt and fruit. We stayed at a reduced price as part of the wedding party, and for the quality of the hotel it was an absolute bargain!
