We stayed a weekend there and it was really cozy and nice stay. Warm welcomed by friendly staff and they offer 10% discount at the bar to welcome guests. The room was nice, clean, without noise or disruptions at all. The breakfast is acceptable but would be nice to have non dairy and more options for vegans. The hotel has small stairs and no elevator so careful if you have big heavy suitcases or specific mobility needs. The manager is personally in charge to ensure you feel like home and that you are timely served. The location is perfect: Portobello market 3 blocks always plus the metro station 3 min distance. Very nice staff and management. My favorite part were the commodities are recycled bottles and not tested on animals. This is the plus while we try to find such kind of commodities in places we stay. Nice mini terrace next to our room, i guess must be an awesome spot on summer.
Friendly staff, great cocktails especially in happy hour, great location and lovely clean room. Great decor throughout. No bar noise heard from our room21.Food was good and was served quickly even though it was a Friday night.Breakfast is a standard self service continental.Would definitely stay again.
I wanted to give 5 stars, but little elements put me off. Room was amazing... Cold at times. The coffee machine did not work. Not did you get a free breakfast Prob something to do with covid. The man swiftly got some tea bags and some milk so at least we got cup of tea. Check out by 11am no one was there so I left a note stating thanks. Bar downstairs serves drinks but at 9.30 when they close, you have to take them to your room.
Carlo and Frankie are two great hosts and the entire staff at Portobello House is incredibly friendly and alway making sure you are all right and well served and with a smile... extra point +. Small improvements could be done to the rooms but I love hotels that have a B&B style, the bistro and bar that becomes breakfast buffet in the morning. Can't comment on the food as I did not eat there. Good taste in furniture too.
The bistro is extremelly nice. Variety of drinks. Wonderful service.
This hotel is a "charming, Ms Marple, modern, English" fusion. Lovley and helpfull staff, the atmosphere in the evening is super. It made my London visit perfect. I'll definently come back.
I ate here with a group of colleagues and both the service and food were excellent. The menu looked great and I chose a dish from all 3 courses. Every one of my colleagues over 20 agreed the food and service were brilliant and we will dine there again. There was also a great overall atmosphere with a nice little garden area out the front for smokers.
My review is for the restaurant/bistro only. I did not stay at the hotel. I had a Sunday Roast here and I was disappointed with the food. The pork belly was extremely dry, for the most part. Clearly overcooked. I thought perhaps I could seek salvation in the roast potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding but the Yorkshire Pudding was flavourless and the roast potatoes weren't especially nice either. Much improved by having them with lots of gravy though. I really did enjoy the decor and atmosphere of the Bistro and would certainly return for a drink and light snacks but I was completely unimpressed with the quality of the Sunday Roast. I've had much tastier roast meals from less sophisticated "old man pubs". It certainly would have been cheaper! I actually wanted to try The Eagle Pub nearby but my cousin wanted to try Portobello House instead and now I can't stop wondering if we would have fared much better at The Eagle. My cousin said he enjoyed his Roast Chicken which I must admit looked tender and juicy. I could tell my pork belly was going to be very dry the moment I looked at it.
Booked a table for 14 to celebrate my Mums 88th birthday. The atmosphere was great, the food was fantastic and the customer service was excellent. They even went out of their way to make sure the members of my party with various food allergies was accommodated for. Will definitely be going back.
Review is for the Bar: We recently booked our office summer drinks at the Portobello House Bar, the 3rd time that we have booked this venue for our office gatherings. The reason that we chose this venue again, despite all the others in the vicinity, is due to the fact that the managers are always very accommodating and responsive when we make the initial enquiry. We find the tapas offerings very tasty and the drinks are reasonably priced too. We also enjoy the small outside area which is secluded from the road by plants, you can so easily forget you are right by a busy road. For our booking this time, Lara and Margot stood out for their friendly service. Thank you, we will be back again!
