A low key and humble place with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Food is amazing. Really well put together food, good flavours and fresh ingredients. Loved the twist on traditional Asian dishes. Presentation looked great too and portion size is good. Owners and staff are friendly and welcoming. Amazing for anyone with dietary requirements like coeliacs. Will definitely go back :
I recently discovered this place and I'm very glad I did. I love coming here, the owners are an absolute delight going above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. They have a great bar selection with a range of original cocktails, fab wine menu and then there's the food....I don't know where to start! It's an amazing fusion of everything East Asian. It is fantastic! The jack fruit scotch egg being one of my personal favourites. This place is must try and a wonderful escape from the city madness.
The first thought when I arrive, this place looks very cool. Then the menu seems interesting and when you get the food, you just fall in love with Pickled Fred. Many vegan, gluten & dairy free options. Super friendly staff and delicious food. I'll definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.
I love how this place is named after "Fred, a quirky, mischievous, pickle-stealing monkey" from the Philippines @thepickledfred. They were in their soft launch week so there were bound to be a few teething problems. The music was quite loud. I'm softly spoken and the waitress really struggled to hear me. Our food took a while to get to us too... It might have seemed longer because I was hungry too! I was really looking forward to trying their jack fruit scotch egg, but they had run out . There was no doubt that Fred's Pickles were indeed pickled! There was a kick to it, but in a good way. The pork pattie was really dry and halloumi fries too over done. They did give us another portion, but again was over cooked. From the mains, I was disappointed with Fred's Banging Banh Mi. There was a tomato base so it just tasted like a pizza. The Yuzu Avocado was bland, but the Morcilla Black Pudding was spot on. Pickled mushrooms, red pepper coulis, fried eggs and salad - nothing needs to change here. When the bill came, we noticed a few things were missing and spoke to the owner, Ben. He had noticed we didn't like the halloumi fries so had taken that off and as a gesture of good will, also removed a few other items. I thought this was very kind of him and with the 50% off from the soft launch, this was a very cheap lunch . We did offer feedback too regarding the dishes and he took it graciously. Another point was that there were no accessible toilets for wheelchair users, but Ben assures me there is one and it will be completed within the next week. I also expressed my disappointment about the scotch eggs - there better be one with my name on it next time! Lol so I guess there will be a next time then. To be continued...
Amazing and under the radar. Best happy hour I've found in all of London, hands down. Not to mention the food is exceptional! The owners are a pleasure and make you feel right at home. Would highly recommend this place! Will be coming again asap.
At first it seemed like Pickled Fred chose an unlikely place to launch their culinary adventures. Located just off Brick Lane, it then became obvious that their menu stands out among the restaurants in the close vicinity. I was pretty exicted with what was on offer having on their soft launch having read their menu online. Disappointingly, they didn't have quite as much choice on the day we chose to brunch. Even more disppointing was the taste and quality of the food itself. Take the prawn, yuzu, avocado flat bread for example; with just a hint of yuzu it was very much underwhelming in flavour. A smidgen of chilli sauce could have done some favours. The prawns were halved so there is actually only three on this dish. There was a 50% discount off the menu as it was their soft launch week. I would be very annoyed if I had to fork out at full price of £9. The som saa - sigh - I don't have the vocabulary to describe how unsatisfying I found this dish. As for the halloumi fries, I'm sure you can see for yourself that there some of these chips had been blitzed to high heaven. We complained that it was overcooked only for it to be replaced with more of the same. Bizarrely, the banh mi flat bread had a tomato base and resembled flavours of a cheeseless pizza. There were some redeeming features: the black pudding flat bread was bursting with well balancef flavours and the egg on top was cooked just right. The house pickles had real bite and punch. The owner had noticed that we weren't enjoying our meal and removed a fair few items off our bill and we hadn't even asked him to. It came to just over £17 for three. We got talking to the owner and he listened to our feedback and happily asked for our opinions on what they could do to improve their dishes. If it wasn't for our chat I would have confined Pickled Fred to the no go list. I hope they get stuck into to devloping their dishes. I'm intrigued to see what they come up with.
Fantastically unexpectedly brilliant! Really small menu of great dishes which is perfect after having your sixth cocktail because they are so good!
I'm so happy this amazing new restaurant has opened up in my neighborhood! Went in today to try it out and was really happy with the experience. My husband is vegan and in vegetarian. The menu is well balanced for all dietary needs. There's a little bit of everything. The decor is fantastic and the owners were lovely. They apparently built it themselves! They are running a promotion right now half off on food but I'll more than gladly pay full price because the food was fantastic. Jack fruit eggs and roasted cauliflower were my favorites. Cocktails were excellent as well. Come show these guys some love!
Amazing food. Amazing service. Different flavors it was perfect for late breakfast on a cloudy Saturday!
LOVE THIS PLACE. Can't wait to go back. Decor, theme and music are all on point. I had the Buttered Rum which I think might be my new favourite cocktail and the scotch egg. Never had a scotch egg quite like that before, very tasty. Looking forward to trying more of the menu next time.
