Welcome to Ovation restaurant, the ultimate theatrical dining experience. Unwind, relax and enjoy classic flavours with a modern twist.

Story

We are extremely proud to shout about our restaurant, Ovation. Proof that in-theatre dining can be sophisticated and contemporary. On the third floor of the city’s Grade II Listed Mayflower Theatre, we are ideal for pre-show and selective post-show dining as well as more leisurely dining without the show. We are also the ideal restaurant for post-show dining after some matinee performances. Our dining room is modern in style with painted wood panelling, black and white stage photo prints and high backed leather seating, tables simply styled in monochrome, with polished silver and gleaming glassware. Modern European in flavour, our menu is as sleekly up to date as our surroundings with indulgent touches that give an extra sparkle to special occasion evenings. Our top notch wine list is an excellent accompaniment.

It almost goes without saying that we offer extremely high quality and affordable dinner and show packages and of course our highly professional and efficient staff always ensure that if you’re dining pre-theatre you will never miss curtain up!

I have eaten at the Ovation restaurant 3 times. I have enjoyed every meal. The service is excellent. I think £20 for a 2 course meal is reasonable. Others have commented on the portion size being small, I would say it's ample. I wouldn't want to sit watching a show feeling stuffed! The restaurant has always been full so pre book!
Went before seeing "Rock of Ages" booked online which was easy, arrived and coats were hung up for up, a nice touch. Set fine dining menu has a good choice and is local if they can, food is excellent, you don't get much but what you get is to die for, the staff are attentive. A nice touch is if you want you can book to have dessert in the interval.
You now have to prepay for a set meal, we usually enjoy our meal before the show,but my husband filet steak had gristle in it,and after two attempts at cooking my pork I sent my meal back not eaten !!!! This meal doesn't really deserve the one star as not only was the food bad but so was service. As you have prepaid there is no re-dress and no bargaining chip !!! We will not eat there again sadly
First, this is a theatre restaurant, so is very busy prior to a show. The environment is pleasant and the service is friendly and efficient. My seabass was hugely overcooked - and the time between ordering and being served suggests that it was pre-cooked and just kept warm under halogen lights or similar. For the quality, I think it is a little expensive, but if you are attending a show, you can't beat the convenience.
Probably my expectations were too high. The food portions were small and way overpriced for the amount paid per person. However a cheap shot was that they added a £1 to the final bill saying Mayflower Appeal. When inquired from them only did they mention it is a charity for Mayflower and that if we don't want to they can take it out. Honestly I didn't mind paying the extra quid but them not revealing the reason was very off-putting. Personally I will not dine there but certainly the show was a treat.
Ideal for a pre-theatre meal. The prices are definitely on the high side, but at the same time the food was much better than I expected, and the service was good. Great kids menu too.
Beautiful restaurant. Friendly, helpful staff with high standards. Would highly recommend the food as it's high quality and not overpriced. Loved having my birthday meal with my partner there.
Arrived early. Not very busy. Excellent service by waitress Laura who communicated with my inquisitive son. The starters and main courses were very well received in its entirety.
What a lovely meal some of the best food I have had the pleasure of tasting well done chef.
