The Food was lovely and the atmosphere is calm and intimate, just what we had hoped for. Perfect setting for our family 6 adults 2 children to escape the world for a while and just enjoy good food and drink. We enjoyed pastries both savoury and sweet, as well as cakes and hot drinks too. Our visit was made super special by Nevi who looked after us. She was so wonderful checking availability of dairy free options for my children, she had all the answers to our questions. We will definitely return and hope to see Nevi again, such beautiful service and care provided from her! Thank you so much. Vegetarian options: Veggie, vegan and gluten free options. Worth calling ahead to check availability of menu items as they provide freshly made products, so availability can vary. Kid-friendliness: It can be daunting dining with children in quiet and mature setting, our two children were welcomed and felt at home.
Love love love! One of the best English afternoon tea I have had in London! We were lucky to take the last round table on that afternoon after visiting the Kew Garden. Staffs were very friendly, either on phone or in person The afternoon tea set was awesome. Savory sandwiches came with various flavors; scones were perfect with the clotted cream and jam; sweets were just right, not too sweet, not too plain We had a set with champagne, and another savory set plus an additional pot of tea to share. It’s a wonderful portion for four. The salmon quiche was one of our favourites! Please do try!
Newens is my family's favourite tea house in London. The service is outstanding, the food is delicious it feels the scones melt in our mouths and the atmosphere is excellent. Whenever we go to Kew Gardens, we drop by Newens. During lockdown, we even had high teas delivered at home - they arrived in the expected time and the standard was as high as usual. Keep up the incredible work!
Very much enjoyed a Christmassy afternoon tea. Visited for the second time. Lovely decor and atmosphere, wonderful desserts. Mains are very traditional British, meaning for most people they lack spices or even salt. The staff are great and friendly, but the place is always understaffed and the poor waiters are running around to try and serve the seated guests and the counter simultaneously. Of course that results in slow service. From my experience they also often don't have some items on the menu. While improvements could be made, I would recommend visiting the place at least once for the special experience.
Went to buy some cakes and pies for breakfast and lunch and I wasn’t disappointed - I cannot recommend enough this place! The quality of the food is excellent and so is the service! Nervi took my order - she was diligent, very kind and attentive to my requests I have some dietary restrictions. If you are in Kew Gardens, is a must visit don’t forget to try the unique maids of honour!.
One of the best tea and cake shop in London. Amazing scone, I would rate it's the best! Soft, fluffy and fresh! Location is not so great because it would be daunting to find a parking space there.Food: 5/5
The Original Maids of Honour have been around for 150 years keeping traditional baking alive and they are the best place around for afternoon tea. The lovely interior is warm and homely with rustic charm and filled with china ornaments and the afternoon tea is served on blue and white vintage china. The scones, cakes , sandwiches and choices of loose leaf tea are amazing and the staff are all lovely.
I had a not especially large piece of chocolate cake. At the counter it was priced at £3.50. However, when I came to pay it was £5.50. This was because there was a £2.00 charge added for eating it inside. A 57% markup! The cake was hardly worth the £3.50 in the first place. We had to point out that the milk jug had not been washed properly, as there was dried crusty milk attached to the inside. The staff did not seem very interested. They did manage to automatically add a 12.5% service charge to the bill though. Had I noticed in time I would have refused to pay that. I cannot recommend visiting here and I will not be going again.
Gorgeous cafe, full of history and in a brilliant location for Kew Gardens. The staff were friendly, selection of food/drink was good and everything was well managed. Locals were popping in and out for tea/coffee/baked goods as well.
Such a rare and unique place to find these days. Quality, decent portions and cakes that are to die for!! So rich, light, fluffy and moreish! Cannot wait to try more next time...if I can eat that much! Parking can be tricky but plenty of transport and such a beautiful area. Thank you again guys!Food: 5/5
