Two friends and I did a pre walk around Stisted before stopping at the Onley for a drink. Looking at the menu we decided to stay for lunch. Oh my goodness it was wonderful, we ate slowly, savouring every mouthful, remarking - you must try this! Fantastic flavours and so well cooked. We couldn’t wait to return on the Sunday with our walking group. We were a tad worried about saying how good everything was, just in case it didn’t live up to expectations. We shouldn’t have worried, one said, best roast ever, another, thank you for introducing me to this gem. We will be back even if our Sunday walk is only vaguely near Stisted, we will be there, can’t wait. We met the chef, very good, helpful and answered all our questions. Waiting and bar staff also friendly and efficient. BTW if you like walking, good paths and we saw lots of wildlife including a large herd of deer, which stood and looked at us for ages. So good.
Excellent Sunday Lunch, nice setting and vibe, the roast dinners all received top marks, generous portions and delicious. Good range beers and wine, highly recommended. Only constructive comments would be : No Dijon only English mustard available. Wine List does not illustrate costs for individual glass. Minor issues, did not detract from a most enjoyable visit.
I will be mirroring almost exactly sunshine seekers have said. We came for a birthday meal as the outside looks stunning. It was eerily empty on arrival but we thought we'd Just got lucky. The inside does not mirror the outside, it's been oddly decorated which makes it feel souless and out of touch with the village feel. The staff were lovely, but the service was so slow. It took nearly 3 hours for 2 courses for 3 people. There were only 4 other groups in there, so it wasn't busy by any stretch. The worst thing though is the automatic air fresheners. Every so often you are met with a puff of chemically over fragranced air freshener which you don't need when you're eating. It could be they're masking a problem with the building, but there has to be a better way than this! I won't be returning.
Visited over the weekend for a birthday meal. The outside is so pretty and such a pretty village location, but for us the inside completely lacked personality and was quite cold and devoid of any atmosphere. The food service was painfully slow and food very disappointing when it eventually came. Another bug bear for us was the automatic air fresheners which kept spritzing a horrid stink when you're trying to eat. Won't be visiting again.
A very delightful find in a lovely Essex village. Close to stansted airport, free port and nearby towns. The food was exceptional and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. Great value for money. 15 minutes from Witham. Will definitely visit many more times. Food: 5/5

The rooms are great and the food was lovely, a small but perfectly executed menu, the service was second to none, it was our first visit and will definitely be returning. Thanks Parking: Easy parking
We have just had Sunday lunch here, now called The Street Brasserie, formerly The Onley. It looked poor and unappetising, thrown on the plate, and tasted well below average. We will not be returning.
