Old White Beare

About

The Old White Beare is a beautiful Pub situated in the middle of the cosy village of Norwood Green. The location is ideal, just 3 miles from J26 of the M62 and right next to the famous Judy Woods.

Story

The reputation which the Beare has for its quality beers is now equalled by that of the food which it serves. Good ingredients imaginatively cooked and beautifully presented by the kitchen team. We make everything fresh, including ice creams and desserts! And all exceptionally good value prices. The menus, which are changed regularly, offer a number of dining options.

Great emphasis is placed on the sourcing of the produce used in all of the dishes on offer and it is only bought from the best of regular, local suppliers.

At the White Beare we can cater for everybody and every event. Hosting Weddings for up to 300 people on the grounds, Christenings, Birthday Parties with buffet menus, personally tailored to your event and Summer Themed Balls. Live entertainment regularly every other Friday.

The Beare as an integral part of the village community. Although its burgeoning reputation now draws clientele from many miles away they still like to think of it as a local.

There is a very warm and genuinely friendly atmosphere apparent around the gleamingly polished bar. Some of the pictures on the walls are for sale from a local art society.

We house guest ales from around the country, and keep all our casks in the traditional way. We pride ourselves on the quality of our beer. Why not come and see for yourself.

We also house over 40 wines from around the world! Whatever your vintage, we can offer you a wine to suit your tastes.

We are also VERY pleased to be given the Cask Marque award! This prestigious award is only ever given to pubs who serve the perfect pint!

Been a few times as a great place to eat and catch up after our dog walk. Wasn't busy but waitress must've been, very easy to order on the app. Had to ask where my latte was, pudding served before plates I always stack them taken away and not sure what went on with the crumble... I've never left food before. My friends vegetarian meals looked and tasted lovely. Nice space for our dogs to relax Vegetarian options: Good choices, tasty
First two photos for old review below, next three photos for the new review at the bottom: Old Review 2022: There was a time where the Old White Beare excelled in quality. When I ate there last week, I was very disappointed and made it quite clear to the staff. Firstly, when we were seated we were informed that practically half of the menu, and some drinks, were not available. We ordered fish and chips and steak. When the food arrived we were asked if we would like anything else to go with our food, and I asked for cutlery. There was no cutlery on the table. Then I had to go around and search for someone to give me a steak knife as I was not provided with one. As for the food itself, as you can see from the images, the fish was tiny. A tiny thin sliver of fish. Possibly the smallest I've ever seen. My steak was alright, however I'd ordered a chilli butter for it which never arrived, when enquiring about it it turns out there wasn't any...so they gave me a cold garlic butter instead - but by the time it had arrived, and I'd got a knife to cut it, my steak was cold so it didn't melt. Very disappointed by my experience there. I paid full price and didn't complain after as I didn't have energy to do so. I felt very let down by a usual fabulous place, which is why it has three stars. If I hadn't any prior knowledge it would have been a 2 star rating. New Review 2024: I've changed my review to a four star but really if I could I'd make it 3.75 stars. The food has certainly improved with the new owners, however there are still staffing issues and stock issues. I came here at lunch time when it was quiet, there were two of us. The server had to return multiple times as they had forgotten our orders, or to tell us the thing we wanted was out of stock. Others seated around is were told similar, to the point there were no peas or beans left and over four dishes there were out of stock. Better but not perfect, I'll be coming back one more time in the future.
Booked in for a meal today as part of our Christmas tradition. We were welcomed and served by Natalie who made us feel very welcome. The pub was quiet but felt very homely with the decor and Christmas decorations. Between us we had turkey and beef bourguignon for main, both came mash and seasonal vegetables. For dessert it was Christmas pudding and custard, and berry tart; both delicious. A good selection of beers including 4 hand pulled ales. The piano is a lovely touch in the corner of the dining room. I'm sure we'll be back soon, Adam Craft.Beer.Monkey
My wife and I went here for a Sunday dinner. I had the roast beef and my wife had the pork loin, both were fantastic, plenty on the plate and the meat was so juicy and tender. The service was fantastic as well, seen to and sat down, meals brought in good time and also very polite. Although its a bit of a trip for us we will be going again.
Just had lunch here with my wife and family. The area we were seated in was so cold and not heated, we sat there freezing and uncomfortable. When the food was brought to the table it immediately cooled down, I had ordered fish, chips and mushy peas or should I say mushy cold pea as the portion was less than a small spoon in size. I think you can do better this.
We arrived here on a very busy Sunday at around 4.30 pm and managed to get a parking space in the car park with a few spaces left. On entering the pub we only just got through the door to be met by a fair size queue of people either waiting for drinks or to be told which table they were to be sat at. As it was a very sunny day and the place has quite a large and very pleasant outside space for customers, we didn't mind too much about queuing to get a table as the warm sunny Sunday made it very busy. We got our table number and ordered our food and sat down enjoying a drink and waited for our meals and sadly it was a table booked for 4.30 and our meal came at 6.15 which was quite a wait. Our meals were good to some extent but the roast potatoes were hard and not warm enough, however the meat, veg and Yorkshire puddings were excellent. The star ratings would have been higher if the roast potatoes had been softer and warmer. Overhaul this place is well worth a visit but a few things as mentioned need improving, the staff worked hard and our waitress was very pleasant and polite.
We came to celebrate a 45th birthday we sat upstairs. Start with the positives. The service was fabulous, beautiful atmosphere. Lovely staff. The negative. The food was awful. The cheese and onion pie was bland, tasteless and unpleasant. We ordered. Ribeye steak and was given Ribeye pork which looked more like a cut of pork. The steak and ale pie was wishy washy, the meat was gristle. Very disappointing as normally this pub/ restaurant is lovely.
Gorgeous pub in a lovely village. On thos occasion we were there as a family group of 10, the weather was lovely so we sat on the deck overlooking fields. The food was freshly made and was delicious as always compliments to the chef we were served by Nat and Tash who were fun, friendly and very efficient. We've been before and always been thoroughly happy whether just for drinks or for Sunday lunch which I'd also highly recommend. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian choices are delicious and well presented Parking: Ample car parking.
We came for Mothers Day lunch and it was amazing! The food was beautiful, amazing pie & melt in your mouth pork, Yorkshire puddings were spot on and the roasties were so good! The puddings were amazing & such a lovely atmosphere! Big shout out to Izzy our server! She was attentive & couldn’t do anymore for us! An absolute credit to the team!
Lovely pub, food leaves a lot to be desired! Had fish and chips. Greasy and you could taste dirty oil! Not good for the price!Food: 1/5
