I’m not an art person but this was a nice way to spend an hour or so, especially on a rainy day. It’s free which makes it an easy decision. Several famous artists have a couple paintings here. We went when they first opened in the morning and there was almost no one there. It was kinda fun to have the museum virtually to ourselves.
Absolutely beautiful. Free admission—located in the center of Dublin. Most certainly worth the visit; the art is astounding and the building not only historic, but breathtaking. Plan on being there for a couple of hours at least. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Honestly, I just can’t believe that it’s free. These artists are some of the most famous in the whole world and to be able to spend a few hours here with so few other guests was awesome. I’ve been to the world famous museums but this just feels so much more personal. It’s really something special here in Dublin and it’s presented so well with really well informed and helpful staff. The exhibits of the Irish artists are provably my favorite-I kept writing down all their names, people I couldn’t believe were left out of my art classes in college. And my daughter spent loads of time staring at all the Yeats. Thank you Dublin, well done!
Amazing place to visit. You'll be able to enjoy the art from a couple of hours to a whole day. Free entry by the way. It's a must see place. I am definitely recommending to visit it. It is a wonderful and thoughtfully curated museum. I enjoyed it very much. I felt like I learned a lot about the Irish experience through the art on display and the periods showcased. It is also across from a lovely park which is nice for a picnic, nap or stroll.
A rich collection of art covering abstract, landscapes, portraits, contemporary and sculptures. Noteworthy paintings in the collection are from Vermeer, Caravaggio, John Singer Sargent, Rembrandt, and Monet. The gallery is beautifully designed and is easy to navigate. The grand gallery is stunning. Entrance is free and this place is a heaven for art lovers.
Beautiful place to visit. Staff are quite helpful in each room! Just a tip before you plan on visiting, you are allowed to take pictures of the art work once your flash is off! It involves a lot of walking but there are seating areas : Also what I love most about the gallery is that beside each painting, there is a piece of information about the Artist and the work you're looking at
Very impressed, free entry and lots to see. Particularly enjoyed seeing a Rembrandt and Caravaggio. Children 12,11,8 all enjoyed it too, especially the creative space with the crayons and paper! Well worth a visit if you’re in Dublin, excellent facilities and impressive collection
I've been there three times and I will keep visiting it. The building amazes me, it's massive, with the stairs, the different wards and rooms with colourful walls, it's a very pleasant experience, the admission is free so I consider a must go at least once if you visit Dublin, especially if you like paintings, but only to visit the building is a nice visit. The shop has really nice things too and I think the café has re open.
Very nice collections, in a very nice building. Not as big as other museums but they have a Vermeer... along with works by other masters including Rembrandt, Goya and many others, as well as moderns like Renoir or Monet. Worth spending at least a couple of hours.
Excellent collection, famous painters El Greco, Picasso, Monet, Renoir etc, free entrance, beautiful rooms. At first it seems that there are only 2 rooms, but if you look better, you will discover a lot of other rooms and collections. It's huge, you might be lost!
