Munster Bar
"The Munster Bar is possibly Waterford’s oldest pub. Its site has served as a tavern since 1853 and has been owned and run by the Fitzgerald family for three generations. The pub is neatly situated at the fulcrum of many of Waterford's most important attractions: The House of Waterford Crystal, Reginald's Tower, the famous Victorian Theatre Royal, the Bishop's Palace Museum, the Medieval Museum and the Medieval French Church. This Victorian Pub has become a staple among locals for a good pint. So call in, sit down and enjoy a drink. The Fitzgerald's are famous for their red hair and warm welcomes."

I was at the Union restaurant in what was the Munster bar. Starters and desert were adequate. The main course was excellent. It all went downhill from there: The atmosphere is one of a busy noise pub. There are too many covers required for the number of chefs. This causes long delays. The gents urinals were out of order and there was only one cubicle available. The price was very high for the overall experience.
Possibly the best pint of Guinness, hospitality, friendly customers, most astonishing building and bar rooms I've come across in 22 years living in Ireland. A hidden gem. Discover it, and you won't be disappointed. Peter is a gentleman, and understands and runs a pub as it should be. Can't wait til my next stop over in Waterford City.
Great atmosphere in wonderful surroundings & fantastic history - staff service tops 5 star & very friendly.
Great old Brown Bar in Dutch terms, real local joint with snugs, nice and cozy. Great beer and whiskey. Some local gentlemen discussing sports, news of the day and the like. Friendly and helpful bartender got us Downes whiskeys, which evidently was chartered centuries ago here in Waterford.
Charming spacious spot. We found ourselves in the front room, which was very cozy, with a perfectly poured Guinness. Staff was friendly. It felt very homely and comfortable.
Had a pre dinner drink here with my daughter, taking in some World Cup football. Enjoyed the hospitality and some repartee with other patrons. Good Guinness.
We had an excellent lunch here after visiting the Waterford Crystal factory. We got the sausages and mashed potatoes, and the goat cheese tartlet. Food was excellent and the service was good too. It'd got a theater feel to it, appropriate, considering its location, and it's got some memorabilia from the Irish Brigade that fought for the Union during the U.S. Civil War.
It is what it is .Old school bar with old school service. Always try to visit when I'n Waterford and never disappointed . Certainly not your loud music scenario and Always nice to hear your voice over everything else.
A dinner worthy for a Viking! Beef Guinness pie a soup and dessert. Highly recommended
Tourist here: we came here two weeknights in a row and had delicious food! Great staff, as well.
