Lovely family dinner to celebrate my sixtieth birthday. The service was spot on, with Charlie, our waiter being most helpful and friendly. My Argentinian wine was lovely, as was the quality of our food. Portions were very good and my sirloin steak was cooked as I like it and very tender and tasty. The accompaniments to our meat were tasty, jacket potatoes and a lovely onion bread, plus fresh lettuce with dressing. We were made to feel welcome by all the staff and will be returning very soon.

I went with my wife yesterday to this restaurant hoping for good things. The place is certainly nicer than previously nicely furnished with fresh clean carpet unlike the dirty mess it was as a Toby carvery. We were put into a small for two table but it was poky so sat at a bigger table there was plenty of empty tables. The we waited to be served we were watching our waiter small talk to a table of customers for 20 minutes passing the time of day I got up and asked for some service. The manager came and took our drinks order then we ordered our meal which after 55 minutes of sitting down finally arrived. I had ordered buttered greens but got green beans and the manager could see I was exasperated so took 50% off the bill which was much appreciated. My wife's steak was superb as were the fries I ordered the rack of BBQ ribs they were nice but dry an extra cup of BBQ sauce would have made it more moist and tasty. At his stage I couldn't be bothered to ask then wait if I ordered it. I had the Hazelnut bomb for pudding it was absolutely delicious my wife had the brownie which was okay. It is such a shame that the service was terrible what made it worse was the waiter knew we were sitting there waiting as were another couple who were also fed up with him chatting away to a table (incidentally the other couple ordered the calamari and when asked did she enjoy she said "very tasty rubber rings " ) so glad we did not order a starter. Food okay' ambience very nice let down by a poor waiter and long wait for food. His replacement served our sweet and could not have been nicer or more efficient.

Food is pretty good and actually reasonable value for what it is, you get a load of stuff with your steak (inc a quarter lettuce with a dressing, which is a little odd, but does work). Some of the dishes haven't been thought through properly though. Scallops and fried potatoes missing a sauce and some elements was disappointingly odd, as was the dessert sharing-platter that was no bigger than a normal desert. Think up market Harvester rather than the premium steakhouse they're trying to be.

We just had dinner last night to celebrate my 50th Birthday. Absolutely brilliant. The food was excellent...BUT MORE important the service from the staff was simply amazing. They went that extra mile to ensure we had a great meal. This is a great positive place for Basingstoke and we will be repeat guests.

food amazing our waitress jade was fabulous. the restaurant has been refurbished to a high standard and we will certainty return. just one negative bar staff need to greet customers (first impression) a smile and a hello would not go amiss they all looked miserable and stressed
