The food was OK, but really not worth the hype. It should be so much better. Unfortunately the staff were really rude on our last visit so we will not be visiting again. Hopefully the staff were just having an off day, the setting is lovely and it has a prime location in Wells high street. There are no toilets her, but there are some public toilets very near by.
I'm afraid to say this was not a pleasant visit. Admittedly we were greeted cheerfully enough and the food on offer what was we were looking for, quick, unfussy, good value. However, from then the experience went downhill very fast. The boy behind the counter handled a pastry with his hands - no gloves or tongs were used which I have to say was very unprofessional. The pastry, a sausage roll, was then microwaved rather than toasted or popped in the oven - which resulted in a very overheated, soggy and floppy sausage roll, which was not enjoyable at all. Furthermore, we ordered a pot of tea which we had to remind the staff to bring to our table - it wasn't clear whether there was table service or not. When it arrived, the tea was stewed and tasted disgusting, so I'm not sure that they knew how to make tea! We also ordered cheese and tomato sandwich which was the greasiest food I have ever tasted. To top it all off, the staff member who had handled our sausage roll with his grubby little mitts was a very awkward and kept coming to our table for no apparent reason, even clearing the used cups and plates before an empty table behind us was cleared. Nitpicking, maybe... but not a pleasant experience which left us feeling a little nauseous and not at all comfortable!
Food wasn't bad but overpriced for cheap bread. Main problem was the manager who snapped at someone in the queue who was a coeliac and asked for the fillings on their own. I've never experienced anyone so rude but at least it was entertaining, quote "are there going to be any more difficult customers today?" did feel a bit sorry for her employees!
Not the place to go in Wells. Was very spoken to in a very rude manner by what I suspect was the manager twice in about 4 mins. Also then watched her go and shout at some children for making too much noise that were not hers. Not very family friendly then either. We found a lovely place up the street and was compelled to actually write a review on how me and my friend were treated in this place.
Having previously visited, both the shop and coffee shop were very good. However, having returned the shop offers very little and is not even worth a browse and the coffee shop has gone from well made lattes and hot chocolate to machine coffee and such, and not even good examples of that.
Enjoyed lunch here sitting in the garden on a beautiful sunny day. Pork and Apple salad roll lovely refreshing friut tea. Staff very nice.
Wouldn't recommend this place..politely enquired if the cafe was still open to be snapped at by the woman behind the counter "no that's why it says closed on the door" in a very rude unfriendly manner. Could have just said no sorry we are closed. If you're closed, then lock the door!! Won't be coming back
Tasteful beach coloured gewgaws and ephemera. Great coffee house with homemade cakes. A good place to sit and revive.
The manager does not like people. Didn't have food and wouldn't bother to go back to try it. Gift shop over priced for such generic stock. Would not recommend.
Slow service, rude staff, run out of food at lunch and no napkins. However, the two younger men and very friendly
