Story

Dating back to Victorian times, the Mercure Darlington King's Hotel is one of Darlington's most iconic buildings. Located at the heart of Darlington, this hotel has played host to important guests, visitors, and also hosted many notable celebrations and events over the years.

After suffering a devastating fire, the hotel was carefully restored to it's former glory and re-opened in 2012 with 83 bedrooms, 3 designated meeting rooms, and the fantastically restored King's Ballroom. The hotel also has a leading restaurant, Carriages, which has the best views of any restaurant in town, and our cocktail bar, which is a real hidden gem.

This stunning hotel attracts people from all over the North East, and we are extremely proud to be Darlington's premier hotel, and wedding and event venue.

One can only describe the kings head as a hidden gem in the centre of Darlington. Set in Christmassy surroundings away from the hustle and bustle of the busy town centre. Had an amazing festive afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday with amazing friends. Everything was perfect from start to finish, service was down to a tea starting with the dreamy hot chocolate right up to to the tasty selection of treats. One should consider visiting here if you are looking for tasty food and excellent service.

Had a lovely stay for my 40th birthday.. Staff all friendly and room was love and really clean... Food from the Kings Grill was amazing.. We would definitely stay here again....

Great central hotel. Fresh clean rooms. Good quality tastu food available at breakfast and in the evening. Nice cozy and relaxed bar on the ground floor. Extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff on hand. Limited parking.on site. Free WiFi throughout the building. Nice conference and meeting rooms available.

I stay in Darlington quite a lot and do my best NOT to stay at the mercure. I find tbe rooms and very hot. The clock tower bongs away all night. I always seem to get a room abive the main entrance. That means you hear all the buses roaring by boy racers and the street cleaner but the best bit is at around six a big brakes delivery truck turns up lowers its ramp noisely and then throw boxes into a gurney before dragging it across the road. There are always a lots of teenagers hanging about the precinct as well smoking weed and making a racket Do yourself a favour and stay at the premier inn or Bannatynes. This is to be avoided if possibe. Its generally a tierd fairly run down buulding that would give faulty towers a run for its money

A very old ugly hotel. The room is extremely small and as extras in the room there are ear plugs (for just one person even though we are 2 pax) obviously because the rooms are very noisy and you can hear the tv next door as if it was in your room. The double room is much too small for one person let alone for a couple. The bed is also very small. The carpets are old and dirty. Really hope not to catch any diseases.
