Very comfortable room with extremely comfortable bed. Pillows and duvet were not cheap. Good quality and sized television with good channels to choose from, should you need it. Clean room and bathroom cleaned daily along with change of luxury towels etc. Julie particularly was very helpful and charming always. Breakfast very filling, should you want the full English, but equally smaller in size if that's your choice. Light snacks at lunchtime, I found fine but my choice of meal from the main menu on the evening, was not to my liking. My wife however thoroughly enjoyed hers. Both meals were very substantial and reasonably priced. Dissapointed somewhat to find the bar closes at about 7pm on Sunday evening as the nearest alternative was about a mile away. Not a huge distance I know, but if it's raining it's too far. All in all, a pleasant stay for the 2 nights we were there. Rooms: I've already spoken about the room we had in my overall review. Nearby activities: The Victorian village at Blists Hill a three miles or so drive away, we found to be enlightening and enjoyable . I'm sure other museums and such close by are also, but because of our limited time of stay, we didn't get around to see them. Walkability: Pleasant walk into Ironbridge itself via the riverbank, providing it's dry. Food & drinks: We found the food in general in the area to be poor quality.
I highly recommend the Water Rat for special occasions! We booked out all the rooms for family to stay during our wedding, as well as booking the restaurant for a big group meal the night before our wedding, and a family breakfast the morning after. I also got ready at the Water Rat with my family and bridesmaids on the day of my wedding. Lee and his team couldn't have been more accommodating. We talked extensively in the months ahead of the event and Lee was so friendly and helpful. He made sure we were completely happy with all arrangements and all details were correct. During the Friday night meal, all the staff were very attentive and served everyone quickly even though it was a big group to manage. On the morning of the wedding, the staff were so kind and made sure we had breakfast while getting ready. We were even waved off by some of the team as we left for the church which was lovely. The gardens were a lovely place to take pictures. On the Sunday morning the team accommodated a bigger group for breakfast than they usually would, as typically breakfast is only served for guests. We really appreciate the extra length the team went to, as this meant we could have more family time before everyone left. Accommodation was lovely, the rooms were bright and spacious and everything was thought of. Even a little fridge in the hallway with fresh milk was a nice touch. The river view was a beautiful and relaxing setting to get ready. Everyone enjoyed their stay and we look forward to staying again. Thank you!
Nicely decorated pub with a modern feel situated in a great location with car park and garden surrounding. Came here for an evening meal with a group of 6 people. Service was a little slow but the food was good. Wide range of items on the menu. Started with a drink outside then moved indoors to the spacious and clean seating area. Friendly service although not the sharpest.
Booked for Saturday lunch. Place was not particularly busy. Positive - lovely Riverside location, plenty of space both inside and out. Negatives - food was OK for the price but the service was poor. 45 minutes to serve our main course. 30 minutes for dessert.Service: 1/5
Booked Sunday meals for 8 , arrived with plenty of time, over half an hour before orders were taken then a further 40 mins before we saw any food at all! When it arrived waiter was in a kank as my wife had asked politely how much longer it will be. Stating it’s only 40 minutes since you ordered. Burger and chips were very poor, small and bland I’m told. Personally my Sunday meal was very nice but wasn’t willing to wait for a sweet as table who were there before us had starters we didn’t were only just being served main courses. Prices on net differ from what I was charged, no lager and only one beer available.
Stayed here for a friend's wedding, fantastic venue, very quirky and charming. Excellent service and food, breakfast was a particular highlight. Will happily visit again!Rooms: 5/5
We had Our Fathers Wake at The Water Rat and could not have been more delighted with everything! Thank you to all the staff who looked after us all, the amazing spread of sandwiches home cooked brownies and cakes, including gluten free. A beautiful setting on a dull day.A special thank you to Mandy who went above & beyond for us Thank you x
A lovely restaurant.I eat here fairly regularly. The ambience is warm and relaxing; the service is good and always friendly, and the food excellent. The chef has twice now cooked us a meal by special request.A truly enjoyable dining experience.I can highly recommend the Water Rat!Service: 5/5
We stayed in room 4 for two nights, which was fabulous, a big room which was spotlessly clean. The view from the window was lovely overlooking the garden and river. The bathroom was really big with a great shower and again spotlessly clean. The breakfast was delicious and they had got veggie sausages in for us. Sue was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. There was a fridge in the entrance with milk and bottled water. The tea tray in the room was comprehensive. The bed was really comfortable, with great quality bedding. I would highly recommend this property and I can’t wait to return. There is a big carpark and the walk into Ironbridge takes 10 minutes, you can either walk along the main road or along the river via a path from the carpark.
Lovely place to stay. Very well priced. Great location, just off the river. The waitress serving breakfast was brilliant. Nearby activities: A 15 minute walk along the river to the Ironbridge.
