The best thing about our stay at the Abergavenny Hotel was the coffee machine at breakfast. Our room was absolutely tiny for the >£100 price point. Don’t be fooled by the ‘Queen size’ name - it was two twin beds pushed together, even with separate duvets. Due to a single tiny window, which had the view of a 6 foot wall, the room felt like a dungeon. At least it was clean. The bathroom was brand new, but that did little to redeem it when the shower constantly switched between scolding hot and ice cold at regular 10 second intervals. Next time, hook it up to a different water circuit to the hotel bathrooms. The most frustrating part was our arrival. We’d confirmed our reservation by calling the listed number - and asked about late check-in. We were told there was a 24 hour night porter to let us in whenever we arrived. On getting to the hotel, the owner informed us that we were wrong, there was no such service, and that “no one had told her that we would be arriving late”. Not the welcome you want after braving 4 hours of traffic and Storm Brian.

Great little hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms well fitted out. Comfy beds. Continental breakfast only and no restaurant. But good restaurants within easy walking distance. Well situated for hill walks. Will be back I'm sure

Really hard to be critical with anything superb hotel, fantastic decor and style, staff are exceptional really made us welcome would have given six stars if i could

Friendly staff. Good continental style breakfast. Comfortable beds, some rooms very small. Good location , near town center. Free parking. Nice bathroom.
