Marmions Brasserie

Stopped here for a coffee and cake - though we nearly walked back out as the only staff member was on the phone for an extended conversation. The coffees were fine, but my friend found his cake to be too sweet for his taste. In line with so many cafés and restaurants these days, there are a lot of hard surfaces, which would probably make it noisy when busy. Fortunately for us there were very few people in the café when we visited. Overall Marmions is worth trying, but there is plenty of competition in Melrose, some offering a better standard of service and atmosphere.

I was told about this restaurant by a colleague, it was a superb recommendation. The steak I had was delicious, super friendly staff too!

After a saga of trying to find somewhere for a late lunch in the small town of Melrose, a local directed us here. This place is one part coffee shop, one part restaurant. My fiancé and I ordered the lamb wrap from the lunch menu, and his parents ordered the chicken panini. The lamb was nice and tender, and beautifully charred too, and arrived with a generous portion of skinny fries. The paninis were enormous, using ciabata bread, and also with a healthy helping of skinny fries. My fiancé's parents had great difficulty finishing, but absolutely loved it. This café come restaurant also serves fresh cakes that are baked locally. Unfortunately, I was so full from my lunch I was unable to sample any! 😭 Next time, I'm sure.
