We came there friday evening. Place was packed, but we managed to get a table. They had live music with a good atmosphere. I had mussels for starter. Portion was big and they were perfectly cooked and the broth was also full of good flavours. The stake pie for main was also huge. The pie was really good and fresh. The meat was tender.
We went from edimburgh airport directly to the restaurant to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We only need 15 minutes to dive into the highland atmosphere with their live music, beautiful decoration, tasty food, and the best attention of staff. We will never forget you because you help us to have a wonderful end of birthday.
There Cullen skink is incredible! Fantastic Smokey flavor and they don’t skimp on the smoked haddock. Perfect for a cold day and you don’t want to eat heavy. Almost 2 weeks later and I’m still thinking about it. I also tried sticky toffee pudding for the 1st time too. My lord, it was the perfect desert after a hearty bowl of soup =.
Lovely little place. Went in for a pint and a drink. Good local beers, even one with mango. Place is small, but quite alright when there's live music. It's okay to sit outside, still can hear the lice music playing. And I just loved the toilets! What a fun experience really hats off the the architect there man!
Nothing special and so I was disappointed. I had the scallops which were fine but little imagination as othing really with it and at £12 was too much. I then had the burger but again felt let down as brioche bun was cold , burger just like a ball of mince, onion ring was stodgy n too heavy, chips tasted like they had been lying for a while
We were interested in food and a beer and MacGregors didn't disappoint. We didn't realize we needed reservations for dinner, but they were nice enough to squeeze us in thanks to the waitress who was on her 3rd shift who checked with the kitchen to see if they could accommodate -- sorry we didn't catch your name, but thanks!. We had fish and chips and a double cheeseburger complete with black pudding in the middle of the 2 patties. Everything was great, beer selection was amazing, fairly priced as well. We were able to catch a bit of the live music, Tuath from Glasgow. Highly recommend:
Amazing restaurant, the service is great, if you are not sure what to try from the menu as everything looks amazing just ask for recommendations. Their Cullen skink was the best. It is worth to make a reservation for the evenings.
Had dinner with steak and ale pie. It was delicious. Then went downstairs into the vault. Cosy space. Watched a folk singer, Edwina Hayes-she was brilliant. Great entertainment - she sings beautifully, great storytelling and a comedian.
Possibly one of the worst meals - Ever- When we brought it up to the manager his reply was "We get great reviews on our Burgers". -NOT TODAY! We asked twice if it was even Beef, Then asked what it was blended with, "Just Seasonings" he said. My husband will eat anything, and he wouldn't even eat this. Then the I'm guessing he was the manager although he shouldn't be, because he does not know how to deal with a different perspective than the customer... He just flat out ignored us after we asked twice what the meat was. Not offering to give a replacement or a credit. He sat there and watched my husband eat his meal and me push my plate away. How very sad that this establishment feels that it is entitled to treat customers this way. What a waste of my time, energy & money.
So many delicious gluten free options! They were so kind catering to celiacs and went out of their way to get really good GF bread. Probably the best bread slices I've had so far while traveling in Scotland! I ordered the Cullen Skink and it was amazing! I would definitely recommend this place for great freshly made food and drinks :
