London Fenchurch Street

Story

Fenchurch Street railway station, also known as London Fenchurch Street, is a central London railway terminus in the southeastern corner of the City of London. It takes its name from its proximity to Fenchurch Street, a key thoroughfare in the City. The station and all trains are operated by c2c. Services run on lines built by the London and Blackwall Railway (L&BR) and the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway (LTSR) to destinations in east London and south Essex, including,, Southend and.The station opened in 1841 to serve the L&BR and was rebuilt in 1854 when the LTSR, a joint venture between the L&BR and the Eastern Counties Railway (ECR), began operating. The ECR also operated trains out of Fenchurch Street to relieve congestion at its other London terminus at. In 1862 the Great Eastern Railway was created by amalgamating various East Anglian railway companies (including the ECR) and it shared the station with the LTSR until 1912, when the latter was bought by the Midland Railway. The station came under ownership of the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) following the Railways Act 1921, and was shared by LNER and London Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) services until nationalisation in 1948. The line from the station was electrified in 1961, and controversially closed for seven weeks in 1994.

Quite annoying to get in, also was quite unlucky as I needed to collect my ticket before going past the turnstiles but the ticket machine was broken and there was no staffed assistance in the information booth. A kind employee let us in and use the other ticket machine. This was the only machine which led to queues as it takes some time to enter all of the required information. The station could be cleaner but it's not unpleasant. Overall pretty average.
Really bad service for a very expensive journey. Filthy uncomfortable trains, toilets don't open, wet sticky floors. Information signs are terrible.
The main station to connect to the Essex coast and it is very good: - Toilets are clean and easy to access - M&S, Burger King and a Costa Coffee the Costa is on the concourse on Level 2 - Large gate line which is always staffed - Helpful people in the information desk - Easy to understand Dot Matrix boards and accessible platforms
Just paid a visit as in the area.
A good station with two entrances. It is a small station with 4 platforms and decent rail connections. It is connected by the Circle and District Line at Tower Hill and the DLR at Tower Gateway. I rate it three stars because it looks a bit old to me and the station is a tad too small.
Serving the East Coast of Essex this is a small City of London Station with only 4 platforms. Compared to other London routes its at the lower end of the service problem scale. Has a pub The Fen inside the station and a couple of shop's on the upper level with a Superdrug and Burger King on the ground floor level. Price are the normal City levels but the food is usually good if you must buy!! Good taxi service outside....no car parks close buy
Excellent mainline terminus. All the usual amenities, such as food, coffee, public toilets. Reasonably well signed. Very close to Tower Hill and therefore the underground and Tfl systems. Close to historical sites too.
Fenchurch Street station is accessible from 2 directions but if you want to avail yourself of the food shops you will likely have to choose the right one. Trains will generally take you east to Basildon, Southend Airport and Southend.
Good station.. However the little coffee shop at the Tower Hill entrance is a joke.. The two girls serving on 03/08/2023 were more wrapped up in chatting with someone about their holiday that actually serving people. I get costumer service but ladies this is a train station and people need to be served… I’ll spend my money else where from now on…..
My favourite of the London Terminals. Almost nobody knows it's here unless you use it every day. C2C operates a fairly regular service to Southend and Shoebury, as well as local services to Grays. Good in every aspect!
