City Thameslink Station is served by Thameslink trains which go to many destinations including King's Cross St Pancras, Luton and Gatwick Airports Brighton, Bedford and Finsbury Park. There are two entrances to this station one on Ludgate Hill and the other at Holborn Vladuct the ticket hall area is large and wide with many ticket barriers to use. There is lift access to both platforms along with escalators the station has toilets in the ticket hall area along with a cash machine costa coffee shop and shoe repair shop too. During the weekdays the station is very busy but on weekends the station is quiet and empty at certain times on weekends the station is closed and trains won't stop here. The station was clean and tidy City Thameslink is one of my favourite train stations very nice station.
Easy to navigate with plenty of signs and information on trains around the city and to airports. Staff was helpful. You can pay with AirPay on your phone or with card. Very easy to just swipe in and out. Plenty of space and accommodation for wheelchairs.
The trains I get never seem to let passengers on or off here but they just stop here so that they can change the train's power collection from third rail to overhead wires. This means that the train sounds completely different when departing than it did when arriving.
Thank you sincerely to Nicola who was very compassionate caring and helpful to my 80 year old mom and special needs brother Her assistance was absolutely invaluable to me as her daughter as they were returning to Luton Airport Parkway today on the train from Blackfriars that arrived approximately 12.31 pm she escorted them too the Dart and assisted with bags as my mom was exceptionally stressed It truly meant the world Nicole if only all staff were as competent and kind as you you truly are a credit to Thameslink Thank you enormously Sinead O Leary
City Thameslink was built as a replacement for the Holborn Viaduct station. The station was opened in 1990 as St. Paul's Thameslink, then was renamed to City Thameslink in 1991 to avoid confusion with the St. Paul's tube station. It was the first station to be constructed in Central London for over 100 years.
If there's a delay don't even bother waiting, It'll keep updating every 15 minutes untill 1 HR later its just cancelled
A while ago my Zip card got denied at this station due to not enough funds or something. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind and helped me with this issue. I was on a planned journey and due to their fast service, I was able to catch the bus I planned to get on as well. Overall, the staffs' service was amazing.
Make sure you know what bit of the train you want… or it’s a long run! Two giant platforms, two entrances and most of London in between. Nothing fancy. Heaving at rush hour, empty in between. Get’s commuters there and back.
I really like the look at this station, definitely still has the look and feel of Network Southeast in places which is quite nice. The station has two exits with escalators and lifts to give step free access to the platforms here however the lifts are very small with an incredibly restricted capacity. Other than that, the station is in a good location.
Great station, we use this when we're travelling from South London and want to visit the city. Very convenient stop and if you get on here you are always likely to get a seat rather than fight for one at London Bridge. Also has public toilets. Takes 30mins to walk to Covent Garden and less than 5 mins walk away from St Pauls.
