This station was located close by the hotel i was staying at Hub motel As a American comparing this station and all the others i was at during my vacation to the ones i was at in New York , you could eat off the ground here. London's trains and the Tube were far cleaner ,and the trains themselves were not trashed.
I have mixed reviews about this station its a nice big London Overground train station which has lifts to the platforms and wide staircases. Sometimes this station and the platforms are clean and sometimes its dirty with glass bottles of alcohol cans of beer and half eaten food left around on Friday and Saturday nights. Also outside the station is dark and dirty not good at all. But good service with trains mostly on time.
A station close to fashion streets and cool colourful walls with graffiti, movida, a lot of nice food and coffee.
Came here en route back to the car. Lift access to platforms. Didn’t have to wait too long for a train.
Artistic central area, lot's of graffities... Wikipedia: The station officially opened to the public on 27 April 2010[3] and replaced nearby tube station Shoreditch, which was directly to the east and closed in 2006. Shoreditch High Street is a London Overground station on Bethnal Green Road in the Shoreditch[2], in East London. It is served by the East London Line between Whitechapel and Hoxton with services running either to Dalston Junction, Highbury & Islington or New Cross, New Cross Gate, West Croydon, Crystal Palace, and is in Travelcard Zone 1. On the 1994 planning version of the underground map, the station was called 'Bishopsgate'. In May 2008 Abdal Ullah, a Tower Hamlets London Borough Councillor, called for the new station to be renamed Banglatown, claiming this would better reflect the area in which it will stand, being a centre of the Bangladeshi community. However Transport for London noted that changing the name would cost £2million and "cause confusion".[4] Councillor Ullah had previously campaigned to change the name of Aldgate East Underground station to "Brick Lane".[5] The station was built on the former site of the Eastern Counties Railway's Shoreditch station, built in 1840. The original station was later renamed Bishopsgate and converted for use as a goods yard. It was destroyed by fire in 1964 and remained derelict until being demolished in 2003-04, with the exception of a number of Grade II listed structures: ornamental gates on Shoreditch High Street and the remaining 850 feet 260 m of the "Braithwaite Viaduct", one of the oldest railway structures in the world and the second-oldest in London, designed by John Braithwaite.[6][7] The present station is built on upright supports as a viaduct, being fully enclosed in a concrete box structure. This is so future building works on the remainder of the Bishopsgate site can be undertaken keeping the station operational. Future buildings have the option of being constructed over the station. The station is situated on a section of track constructed to link the original East London Line and the formerly disused North London Railway's Kingsland Viaduct. Construction of the link included a new bridge over Shoreditch High Street and links to Whitechapel via a bridge over Brick Lane and a ramp on the site of the former Shoreditch tube station.,[8][9] London Overground began running 24-hour trains on Friday and Saturday nights between Dalston Junction and New Cross Gate which called at Shoreditch High Street from 15 December 2017.[10] but bypasses Whitechapel and continues on to Shadwell due to ongoing construction work for Crossrail Elizabeth line until 2019.[11] Mondays to Saturdays there is a service every 5–10 minutes throughout the day, while on Sundays before 13:00 there is a service every 5–9 minutes, changing to every 7–8 minutes until the end of service after that.[12] Current off peak frequency per hour is: 8 Northbound to Highbury & Islington 8 Northbound to Dalston Junction 4 Southbound to Crystal Palace 4 Southbound to New Cross 4 Southbound to West Croydon 4 Southbound to Clapham Junction via Peckham Rye London Bus routes 8, 26, 135, 149, 205, 242, 388 and night routes N8, N26 and N205 serve the station on Shoreditch High Street and Bethnal Green Road. Routes 149 and 242 operate 24 hours per day.[13][14]
Well located and large overground station in the coolest part of town.
Vibrant fun quirky and free. Enjoy
Top nosh! Starters were incredible, blend of vegetarian and meat options. The lamb shank was amazing! All dishes were so tasty. Great time with friends and lovely atmosphere with great service to boot. You can't beat Dishoom. You really can't 5/5 every time.
When they built this station, by making it the way it is, they clearly wanted it to not not suffer the same tucked away and inconvenient location of its predecessor, Shoreditch London Underground station, which was almost in a side street off Brick Lane and had a weird service pattern, peak hour weekdays and Sunday Mornings only. It's big and prominent, you cannot miss it. It's very modern and is well connected. No complaints about the service, just the brutalist nature of the box tunnel on the viaduct housing the station. Having said that, it will be perfect shelter from the predictably unpredictable British weather
The station itself is good nice glass tiles , but just outside station is pretty awful, it needs to be improved, especially towards commercial street. Even day time it was not very good. Very dirty and dark.
