Lovely, rather quirky room with more than enough room for two people! Our room had a second, smaller bed so we probably could have brought a friend along and we would have been fine! Lovely staff who were always so accommodating and more than happy to help. Lovely breakfast too!! Very filling and sets you up for a day of exploring.
This was listed as a b&b, I know that breakfast wasn't included in the price - but the cafe wasn't even open! We were not informed of this until we got there for our 3 night "break". I am disabled, so booked an accessible room with wet room, the room flooded when showering and also had no seat. The toilet seat was broken, cobwebs all-over. The website stated coffee machine would be in the room, there was no machine as apparently they can't be wiped down covid when we got there we had 2 teabags and 3 coffees to last us 3 nights, I had to ring the telephone number to ask for more. Beds very uncomfortable with springs sticking into you. Didn't see a single member of staff for the full 3 nights. Extremely overpriced at £100 per night!! I wish I had stayed in a more central hotel, where we would have had breakfast included for a much cheaper price. AVOID.
Good location just out of Penrith. Great for a stop over for walkers. Inca Room was nice, it had good wet room with heated floor. Cafe had a good choice of food. Tea & coffee making facilities. Llama walk the next day was excellent!Rooms: 4/5
The room was very nice but the floor was dusty .the bathroom was good and large. The site was a disappointment.. the café not open.. the restaurant not open the shop not open toast on paper plates in the outside in the drizzle and the only llamas we saw was a mother and calf in a dingy pen We were there for 3 days and at £100 per night. VERY overpriced good job there was plenty to drive and. See away from the site..
Lovely room with good facilities and friendly staff. A great breakfast served with freshly squeezed juice and lovely coffee. The llamas are a bonus! The only drawback is finding where to turn off the A66 in the dark as there's no street lighting.
Have been visiting the Lakes for years but this little gem has gone undiscovered until now... A beautiful b&b with so much to do locally. We stayed in the Inca room for 2 nights and our 3 year old little boy just loved the day bed, the brightly coloured pictures and the walls decorated with animal trinkets. Tv in there to enjoy cbeebies on the wind down time so no need to pack up all your tech. The rooms are fun and quirky and the owners Mary and Graham go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. A very friendly family, you will feel like you're going from home to home. The activities will keep your little ones amused for hours. We booked the animal encounter which is easily accessible on site in the beautiful grounds. This was held with their daughter Caroline and it was quite simply an amazing experience. Caroline explained everything so well even we learned stuff we didnt know! Our Son dived straight in and held reptiles, snakes, mice, bugs and many more. We even saw the Eagle Owls close up and came home with a feather. We then explored the day fishing, bbq's, boats and waterfalls all close by. The next day we booked the Llama trek, again organised by the hosts. Walking once again into the beautiful grounds we found our guide Mark and 2 majestic looking Llamas waiting for us. Warrior the Father and Jester his Son. Everything was explained thoroughly about these beautiful animals before we set off and during our trek. He was the perfect guide and we felt instantly at ease. So friendly and informative. Llamas are incredibly gentle animals and at no point did I feel uneasy with my Son walking any which way around them. They don't kick, they don't make any jerky movements, they are perfect for both youngsters and elderley to be around. You can see the love and care that are put into these animals. A credit to the team. We stopped at the castle for pictures on a picturesque bridge. The walk is easy and suitable for both young children and the elderly. The only thing that was missing was an extra few nights here! Book this b&b with confidence, you wont be disappointed. Look forward to seeing you soon! Samantha
Stayed for the weekend with partner and 3 children in adjoining rooms. Had to wait for an hour to gain entry into room despite terms and conditions stating rooms available from 3pm apparently ours wasn't ready until 5pm. We were offered complementary coffee from the take away cafe. Rooms clean and nicely decorated. Shared shower facility which didn't bother me as we were the only people staying. I wouldn't chose to book somewhere with a shared bathroom facility otherwise. Issues during stay: No towels in the room stated included in price in T&Cs. No heatingas above. These two issues were rectified within the hour after 2 texts and a phone call. Broken toilet seat. No local information or WiFi code in room. Website states discount for 2 night stay when pay in full at time of booking. This was not offered to me at time of booking when I paid in full. No hairdryer. Needs black out blinds as room has 2 huge windows and room is light from sunrise. 4 teabags, 4 coffee sachets and 4 UHT milks for a family of 5 for a two night stay! Not replaced the following morning. We went to the shop and bought our own. Lack of plug sockets in room for chargers and hair appliances also nowhere near mirror. Dead mice on our patio in a bucket. Photo attached. Yes it is the countryside but not acceptable where small children are playing. Cafe closed due to covid. No indoor eating area presently therefore eat outside in the rain! Half of the animals were either not in cages or inaccessible. None of this was explained at the time of booking. I have been to others farms during covid that have indoor eating facilities open, so not sure why this doesn't? There was a kitchen area in our facility that could have been utilised but this was locked because we were paying room only rate. Also has laundry room and office in here so people wandering around on corridor where bedrooms open out to. Not really appropriate when walking out of the shower room into the bedroom and meeting staff in the corridor. Had an encounter with a very rude female member of staff cropped dark hair who told me I shouldn't have been in a particular area of the property residents only area, whilst waiting for certificates post llama trek walk. Clearly didn't know I had stayed there for the last two nights! We did a llama trek with Mark which was absolutely fantastic. He had a wealth of knowledge and took the time to explain everything and didn't rush us at all. I wish I had just booked the Llama trek with Mark, although again, about £50 more than other areas for the same or better experience. Overpriced and most definitely not boutique!
Booking is confusing. Booking.com details don't match information later provided by the hotel, including different check in times and information about pets. The room is dated with worn and damaged furniture. The mattress is uncomfortable awkward springs. The bathroom sink leaked. The shower was only ever luke warm. The TV remote didn't work. Unfortunately the room wasn't as clean as it should be, even by normal standards nevermind Covid - bedside tables were very dusty, and there were several hairs in the bathroom, which left us not feeling confident in the cleaning of the rest of the room either. The location was convenient for what we needed, and the self check in procedure did limit contacts so there are a couple of positives. Overall though, this was very poor value for money.
The Llama Karma Kafe is probably fine as a place to stop for a bite to eat while seeing and interacting with some unusual animals. As a bed and breakfast experience, Llamas Pyjamas is abysmal. My partner and I and my partners parents stayed here for two nights. Originally booked last year as a present for them and understandably pushed back due to Covid, we were excited to be spending a long weekend basking in the best of Cumbrian countryside, in a nicely themed B&B, with the added bonus of having some llamas around to interact with. First of all, this is not a bed and breakfast. The website does make it quite clear that breakfast is not included in the price, but is available for purchase at the Kafe. Which is technically fine, but I'm of the impression that if you want to call yourself a bed and breakfast, you're expected to include breakfast for your guests. The Kafe and rooms are located in the Cumbrian countryside, and you can see some nice fields from the rooms, but you can also see the A66, a busy, fast main road. And hear it. Because this place is not located on some farm removed from the main road as the website would suggest, but rather, directly on the main road. A Travelodge in a motorway service station is farther from the road than this place. Yes, they provide earplugs in the room. Good luck using those to drown out the drone of traffic speeding past in both directions. Also, be prepared to drive everywhere, because even Brougham Castle, a mere half a mile away, is unwalkwable unless you enjoy becoming roadkill. We stayed in the Inca room, which looked like it was decorated by a 12-year-old girl whose idea of glamour is the Love Island villa and anything you can see in a Girl Talk magazine. Tacky and chintzy, the only Inca-themed items were two Peruvian wall hangings, such as you might buy from the Indian markets in Lima at the end of your Peruvian holiday. Both of which were overshadowed by the giant silvered plastic wall clock which didn't tell the time because it had no batteries and the shockingly pink TV/DVD player on the wall. The room was not properly cleaned; a couple of spiders on the inside might be expected in the countryside, but a chewed cherry stone on the bathroom floor, a musty smell of wet dog and sequined cushions which definitely haven't been washed since purchase lying on the pillows were not. The room seemed to have been roofed with drums, because each step from the guests in the room above was amplified and reverberated through ours. My partners parents stayed in the adjacent Aztec room, which wasn't a whole lot better the decoration was presumably done by the mother of whoever did ours, so not quite as abrasive, but still quite tacky and again, not very "on-theme". Their bathroom didn't almost flood like ours did upon showering, but their mattress didn't have a topper and their bed sheets were not properly cleaned. Which brings me to prices. For £40 a night, this place would be fine. Not great, just OK. You're not expecting much for £40 a night. However, this place cost us £95 a night, per room. So £380 for two nights. And for that price, this place is not just abysmally disappointing, but feels like a rip-off. Minimal theme, noisy, tacky, and poorly cleaned and maintained and just a poor, poor experience. You don't even get to see any llamas unless you happen to spot them on their way to a trek, or you pay. When we did our research, we thought it was strange that you would have to pay extra to interact directly with the llamas if you're staying there, but we figured that for our £95, we'd be around them, enjoying them at a distance from our nicely themed rooms - having a "living surrounded by llamas" experience. Not at all. In order to justify the inflated prices, this place needs to make the Bed & Breakfast part of their offering as important as the Kafe, step-up massively in terms of quality and comfort, and include some llama experience as part of the price you pay for staying here. Until they do, avoid, avoid, avoid!
Me and my best friend Nigel stayed at Owl Cottage for a few days as a treat for me and it was an exceptional treat. The owner Dan & his lovely wife and family were very welcominging. We luckily got to eat at the Llama Karma cafe and the food was locally sourced and freshly cooked. The added bonus of the llamas and other animals was an extra treat. I would highly recommend a stay if not at Owl Cottage then the Safari Suite is spacious and gives the feeling of an African break with it's beautiful decor. All round we found the staff and owners like one big family warm, accomadating and helpful. The food was a delicious bonus and the animals were an absolute treat. Great places to visit close by too. Thank you all at Llama got a wonderful stay.
