Story

L’Ortolan, located in the beautiful village of Shinfield, is Reading’s only Michelin starred restaurant.

Head Chef Tom Clarke is passionate about his cooking, and ensures that the same quality of interpretation extends right through the whole of the L'Ortolan experience. The L'Ortolan team work hard to ensure that it passion is as integral to the wine selection, the service and the style of the environment as it is to Tom's food.

In addition to the main restaurant, L’Ortolan can offer three private dining rooms for you to choose from, each with their own unique flavour, and for larger parties the main restaurant and Glass Room are available together for exclusive use– and all with no room hire charge.

With its magical atmosphere and beautiful location L’Ortolan is the perfect choice for every dining experience from a relaxed lunch to celebrating special occasions.

Great food, great service, great wine. We had a lovely A la carte dinner. Superb. The only downer was that we booked the chauffeur service. We paid the driver upon arrival but were given a bill at the end of the night by the restaurant. We told them we had paid already and were met with derision " that's not how it's done" they then made a big fuss about it, making us feel awkward. We were told the taxi would he 2 minutes. An hour later and 2 other groups being sent out before us, ours arrived. The driver was then surly with us because we had told the restaurant we had paid. I feel one of their drivers was trying a fiddle and got caught. Great food, avoid their "chauffeur" service. Book your own taxi.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at L'ortolan. We cannot fault the food for taste and presentation, and the service was second to none. We both chose the 7 course Gourmand menu which can be found on their website. We photographed a few to share. A fantastic evening. I would definitely recommend it.

An outstanding restaurant, staff were so courteous and efficient and above all food was a joy to the palate. Keep up the good work, will certainly make another reservation when we visit our Son in Reading. A good memory to take back to Wales.

Good was good ... Lovely building outside. Gents bit tired. Service was bit hit and miss. Had a Groupon voucher so good value. Waitedhalf hour for coffee so cancelled it. Staff not to pleased.... had lots better.
