Stepping into the Kyoto Garden within Holland Park felt like being instantly transported to Japan. Opened in 1991 as a gift from the city of Kyoto to commemorate the long-standing friendship between Japan and Great Britain, this garden is a masterpiece of Zen design. The focal point is the stunning tiered waterfall cascading into a calm pond filled with colorful koi carp, creating a peaceful soundtrack of flowing water that masks the city noise.nThe attention to detail here is breathtaking, from the stone lanterns and carefully manicured maple trees to the peacocks that often wander through the greenery. It is a place specifically designed for reflection and mindfulness. Whether you are visiting in the autumn to see the fiery red leaves or in the spring for a touch of blossoms, the garden offers a unique, serene atmosphere that is unlike anywhere else in London.nnTips for your visit:n• Waterfall Views: The bridge over the pond offers the best vantage point for photography and watching the koi.n• Quiet Hours: This is a popular spot; visit early on a weekday morning to fully experience the silent, meditative quality of the garden.n• Holland Park Discovery: Make sure to explore the wider Holland Park area, including the ruins of Holland House and the beautiful woodland trails.n• Peacock Spotting: Keep your camera ready as the resident peacocks love to pose near the garden entrance.nThe Kyoto Garden is a small but powerful sanctuary of peace and beauty. Located within Holland Park, Kyoto gardens has been a place recommended to me many a time. Unfortunately it did not live up to the hype and praise it gets.nnThe area itself is tiny, a small pond and a decent sized waterfall with on small path that loops around. It is incredibly narrow and I witnessed people in wheelchairs struggling to move throughout the gardens. There is a small spot where a wheelchair can fit and that is where most of the wheelchairs users I saw stayed for the majority of the time. There is absolutely no way a wheelchair would pass across the waterfall which is so unfortunate.nnFurthermore, the main attraction which is the infamous waterfall is horrendously busy. When I visited on a Tuesday, people were forming a line to take a photo in front of it. The narrow paths which are restricted by a form of railing means the line nearly filled the whole place.nnThe pond is very small and the main attraction there was a bird and koi fish in the pond. There is nothing else.nnAll that said I really do hope they make the area more accessible and make the garden larger because the area itself is beautiful. Personally I found walking around Holland Park far more enjoyable than Kyoto Gardens.
Kyoto Garden: A Stunning Slice of Japan in LondonnnI had the pleasure of visiting the Kyoto Garden, and it was truly a magical experience. The garden is filled with the authentic atmosphere and scent of a real Japanese-style garden, making it feel like a peaceful escape right in the heart of London.nnThe cherry blossoms were absolutely breathtaking, and combined with the cascading streams, small waterfall, and beautifully maintained bonsai, the scenery was simply unforgettable. Every corner of the garden felt carefully designed and serene.nnIf you’re planning a visit, April and May are definitely the best months to go, as the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and the garden is at its most stunning.nnAnother highlight is the adventure playground nearby, which is fantastic for families with children. It’s a perfect spot where both adults and kids can enjoy their time.nnHighly recommended for tourists and locals alike—this is a place you won’t forget!
Holland Park is one of the most peaceful and beautiful green spaces in London, perfect for a relaxing walk away from the busy city. It has a lovely mix of open areas, gardens, and quiet corners where you can just unwind.nnInside the park, you’ll find Kyoto Garden, which is especially stunning. It’s a Japanese-style garden with a very calm and picturesque atmosphere. There’s a small pond where you can see large, colorful fish swimming around, which adds to the charm.nnIf you’re lucky, you might even spot peacocks wandering around the garden, making the whole experience feel even more special and unique.
Kyoto Garden is genuinely beautiful — very calm, very Japanese vibes. The water, the layout, the greenery… the whole aesthetic is stunning. There are colourful fish swimming around, although you’re not allowed to go close, which was slightly annoying There’s also a waterfall, but you can tell it’s man-made rather than natural. Still cute though.nnBonus entertainment: a random bird that absolutely did not look British sir??? who sponsored your visa?? . And the peacocks… ONE male peacock was absolutely gorgeous, fully showing off while the rest were grey and boring. I tried chasing them for vibes and they ran away immediately — rude but fair.nnHolland Park itself has old, almost ancient-looking architecture which I really liked. Very calm, very aesthetic, perfect for a peaceful wander.
