Kirkby Stephen Hostel

It is a very nice place, really relaxing atmosphere. The wife is sleeping in because the beds are better than the three star hotels we stayed at earlier. There are a lot of walkers here that are doing big coast to coast walks so there is a lot of information about walks if you are up for it. The place is also dog friendly which is a big plus for us. You are asked to check with the other hostel guests about using the main room with your dog , to not disturb other guests that might have a fear for dogs. The three pubs around the hotel are also dog friendly.

This place was disappointing. My first online payment failed. However, I only found this out when I arrived at the hostel and they had no record of my payment. It would have been better to have been emailed about this sooner. The hostel is located in a disused church on the high street. This makes for quite an interesting place to stay. However, the condition of the building is starting to look rather shabby. A lick of paint, some better signage, and some new carpets would not go a miss. The staff were friendly but also quite scruffy and not very efficient at working in a front of house setting. The sort of people you would like to have a pint with but not the sort of people who are very good at managing accommodation. During my stay I met a few classic YHA (hostel) characters. The slightly odd bloke with a weird dress sense, the person who does not stop talking, and some germans. At £20 a night, if you are looking for the cheap hostel experience Kirkby Stephen Hostel will meat your needs. However, it could do with being managed a little better.

Double bunk beds. Two rooms with entrance to a shared bathroom. 3 sinks 2 toilets and 1 shower. Also available on other floors. Didn't really see any staff on hand. Good place for a group overnight stay. Sleep. Get up and go hostel.

The hostel manager wasn't at the place during the hole time we spent there. We were alone. There were also no staff or service.
