An unusual railway station. It would make sense if the two branches which terminate at Kirkby were connected.

A busy station served by local buses to the town centre and many other parts of Kirkby. Trains to Liverpool (Monday to Saturday) are every 15 minutes during the daytime with a half-hourly service in the evenings and Sunday. A separate line can be accessed under the road bridge with trains to Wigan, Manchester and beyond. These normally run every hour. Platforms can be reached using the steps to one end of the platform or via a ramp to the other end. The ticket office is at street level with a toilet next to it. Glass shelters with seats are available on both platforms.

The station is a bit old but has easy access to both Northern and MerseyRail trains.
