I got my experience from a video, not a book! It sounds really good and I do recommend this station for people in the Wirral who wants to go to the Albert Dock because it's quite close to it.

James Street Station is on the Wirral Line and links the other Liverpool stations on the underground loop which includes Moorfields, Lime Street and Liverpool Central. From James Street trains run to Chester, Ellesmere Port, New Brighton and West Kirby. Platforms at James Street are accessed via lifts. A small shop is available at the entrance.

Not my favourite station, but good.

Wheelchair accessible until you come out of the lift for platform 2; then you have to negotiate 2 flights of stairs to the platform level. On the plus side, Mersey Rail has free wifi (which cuts out once you enter the Tunnel).
