The bedroom and bathroom was a good size but in serious need of refurbishment. Dinner and service in the evening was fine but breakfast was very slow. 35 minutes to wait for bacon and egg no buffet to pass the time was ridiculous. Luckily we were not in a rush. Not really good value at the moment but a refurb is promised next year.
Read reviews before hand that put us off but they were so friendly room was clean needed a little update on decor but I expect COVID has made it hard for the business funds. Food was excellent and nothing was too much trouble had a fabulous breakfast so much choice
We booked a feature signature room only to find it was nothing like what was advertised on the website. The upstairs was incredibly run down. Our room had broken lamp shades, cracks in the wall, furniture just in general bad condition and the bathroom was quite grimey. This was such a shame as downstairs the bar and restaurant areas were in great condition. But the room was unacceptable fir what they were charging and the company need to put some money into the hotel side. The supervisor on shift who dealt with us was incredibly kind and understanding and great customer service all round. We stay in many of the Butcombe hotels as we have a dog and have never had a bad room until now. They have always been the same as advertised. I would recommend if you are planning to stay here, calling ahead making sure your room is what you are expecting before you arrive. As for us it did ruin our trip as we had been looking forward to this stay for months.
Slightly disappointed with our stay , quaint local pub in the village , staff were superb but waiting an hour for breakfast was far too long and they were severely understaffed... I actually felt sorry for them and the housekeeper helped out the poor lad on his own. Rooms a bit tatty now, bed was soft and heavily worn squeaking away with every movement and TVs didn't work very well. What staff did work there were very supportive of the business but the site needs investment now and the rooms need a makeover with new beds. Unfortunately we will not be rebooking.
We went to the kings head with our son for his 30th birthday. We had a lovely evening and the food was so nice. My son and I are vegetarians and we really enjoyed the food. Staff were absolutely wonderful and really friendly. This is our 3rd visit to the kings head in Hursley and we will definitely go back.
Been coming here for years as we have family to visit on the doorstep but over the years this hotel has changed but not for the better .No consistency of staff No one living on premises. Looking very tired and worn out.Tables outside are never wiped down with food left on them over night attracting vermin . Our room was not serviced in the 4 days we stayed and even had to request toilet roll because of no service we had no shower gel in room yet again down to cleaning not done in rooms .We know it's an old building but the heat was so unbearable we had no sleep for 2 nights fans should be offered in this heat as there is no air con . Just no personal attention in this hotel anymore.A new chef arrived one morning and served us raw eggs nearly undercooked sausage and bacon I just could not wait to check out of this hotel this time around very very disappointed Rooms: Beautiful size but getting very tired and rickety furniture Walkability: Too many steps no good for the elderly
Dropped in on way back home. Nice friendly staff service was ok. Had a light lunch if Bacon roll and a Steak sandwich. Nicely cooked could have done with a small side salad to go with it , maybe a plus side they missed of the ketchup from the bacon roll.Service: 5/5
Restaurant review - I have not stayed here for a long time as I live locally. The restaurant is very good - good menu, well cooked, nice ambiance inside and outside - and great service. I have tried several times to join the club and then would visit more often but i keep getting rejected by the online form - shame.Service: 5/5
Whilst our cooked lunch was quite nice pork . . . the so called 'fried potato' accompaniment was not as 'advertised' and was barely warm in temperature and the stem broccoli well undercooked. Nobody came to ask how the meal was and when we paid the bill made the cardinal mistake of not checking it ! A 10% service charge was added without any mention being made. We only spotted it later ! Not certain if we will visit again. Noteworthy details: Big car park.
In fairness, they did say that their main chef had been hospitalised and they had a stand-in. However, the quality of the food was shocking. Where it's approaching £20 for fish and chips, I'd still expect a high standard. The dishes were largely incorrect, options not asked as ordering, and missing from the plate. What was being served was mostly overcooked. A couple of people in our group abandoned the meals. Sometimes it might be better to just say you can't do food that day.
