This sugery is a relatively well run and friendly surgery. Appointment availability can be limited at times 1-3 weeks for non emergency f2f and calls can take time. However, receptionists are generally friendly, helpful and patient which helps and will make an effort to find information needed. Doctors are generally considerate and curious and do seem to care about wellbeing. I have a long term complex condition which can be difficult to manage with how the system is set up. I do feel more confident requesting what I need and advocating for myself at this surgery than others. They also do things to try and alleviate the pressure of long waiting times like allow you to take bloods at a number of locations and allow for easy pick up/ drop off of testing equipment. My experience with doctors will vary day to day but they have been some of the most efficient and compassionate I have experienced with a chronic condition and seem committed to respecting me as a patient and supporting my wellbeing.
I have been going to this Surgery since childhood to Adulthood. I have to say that every member of staff from Receptionists, Nurses and G.P.s are brilliant. It isn’t nice to see receptionists being shouted whilst carrying out their duties. Would recommend The Kingfisher Surgery to anyone.
The team at Kingfisher are friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. My partner is registered to another GP and we've sometimes booked appointments at the same time, mine are booked and complete in days to weeks, whereas he sometimes waits months. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences at this centre, god bless the NHS!
First class treatment. Doctor Esther Blenke was responsive, caring and went above and beyond to ensure my father received the necessary treatment. Administrative coordinator Isabelle was equally top notch - clear communication, attentive and went the extra mile to help my father.
I’ve been a patient at Kingfisher Medical Centre since 2019, and I’ve noticed significant improvements over the last three years. The training of the reception staff has noticeably enhanced, making interactions smoother. The system for booking appointments, including same-day ones, as well as ordering prescriptions and accessing test results, has become more efficient. Both the nurses and doctors are exceptional, truly making this a great medical practice. It’s a bonus that it’s within walking distance! I’m hesitant to share this gem—I don’t want it to become too crowded—but they deserve a big shout-out for their excellent service!
I don't blame the surgery itself, for I'm acutely aware of the pressures and strains facing the NHS across the country, and I know who I blame for this not you!, but I thought I'd just mention that, having waited almost forty minutes to get through to someone, when my time had finally come to speak the awful muzac had just ceased, having been told by the automated message-giver I was number one in the queue, it cut off and the call ended. I've now had to try to ring again, only to be almost as far down the queue list as I was forty-five minutes ago. I hope this isn't a common problem. Edit by way of a reply: Thank you for your message. Yes, I did manage to get through in the end, after an hour I'm not too bothered about the wait as I was multitasking, and the person I spoke to was polite, helpful and successfully booked me in for an appointment next week. I've therefore changed my review from 3 stars to 4.
The nurse is very skilled and managed to successfully operate my smear test without causing any pain. I am very grateful for that, as I have had bad experiences in the past with unskilled staff. I am always nervous when it comes to getting my smear test done.
New at this practice I didn’t know what to expect due to previous bad experiences and seeing some comments. Positively surprised as got the appointment quite quickly, when at the practice I went in almost immediately and the nurse was warm and welcoming.
1. They moved my appointments from Surrey Docks Health Centre to Kingfisher Medical Centre, Deptford in the last 3 months and the quality of service has plummeted 2. They always find your issues not urgent and book your appointment for a month later, which means they do not address anything that is not urgent or chronic 3. Appointments are mostly running 30 mins late and yet if you happen to turn up 15 mins late they will dismiss your reasons and cancel your appointment 4. Doctors repeteadly deny antibiotics for an infection caused by bacteria that has gone on for 4 months causing further worsening of the symptoms. They are callous and that is a capital sin in health care. Replying here: 1. We offer appointments at both sites, and it would be very helpful to know why you think the quality of service we provide has plummeted. A: No you don't, you offer the next available appointment "based on clinical urgency" as you state, which happens to be always a month ahead and in Deptford. A month in the future is no help unless you have a marginal ailment that you can live with. 2. [...] We are urgently working to increase appointment availability; 1. Hiring additional GPs not as easy as it sounds [...] A: On one hand, the admission that doctors do not want to work for your clinic is telling. On the other hand, why is your clinic taking new patients when you clearly do not have the capacity and push appointments one month in the future https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-gp/results/SE85DA? 3. Appointments do sometimes run late and we do understand how frustrating that can be. Some patients take longer to help than others [...] A: As per your receptionist's admission, you book a visit every 10 mins. This is clearly overbooking and leading to poor patient illness evaluation, again bad mismanagement. 4. Antibiotics are provided when clinically indicated, but the risk of resistance is high and we are under strict instructions to only prescribe them when definitely necessary. A: If an infection keeps getting worse over 4 months you tell me what is needed?
From the reception staff to the doctors and the nurses you always are made to feel welcome and you have time to talk without feeling rushed. Which is a blessing.
