Overall, the experience here was a good one. The hotel is a mixture of old and new, with extensions being added at different times during the buildings existence. For this trip, I stayed in a family room looking out over the front of the hotel. The room was dated and needed some TLC. Cleanliness was good, and the beds were not the most comfortable I've slept in at a hotel. The breakfast quality overall was good with reasonably good ingredients. However, the fried breakfast, such as the bacon, sausages, and egg, varied between cooked just right and overdone. The continental offering was good, and there were also plenty of cereals and fruit available. At the swimming pool, the water was quite warm, possibly due to the baby swim lessons that get held there. Again, the pool needed some TLC. Some tiles were missing, although I they are closing the pool soon for maintenance. The service and staff were all friendly and helpful and I'd more than happily stay here again.
The hotel and staff were very friendly. The rooms were very clean. The food was good quality and very tasty, especially the breakfast!! The spa facilities were very good. But what really made our stay was the lovely, friendly helpful receptionist called Nicky, she made us feel like we were at home.Rooms: 5/5
My wife and I had a 2 day spa package with meals included. This included a treatment too. Phoebe was the first person to deal with us on arrival and she was so nice, a wonderful natural smile throughout our conversation and was really helpful. Lucy provided my back, neck and shoulders massage and it was so relaxing I found myself in and out of sleep throughout the session. The spa facilities were just what we needed, not too busy either. The food… amazing. The room we were in was truly fantastic too. The gardens are lovely. Every member of the staff were so pleasant and polite. What a great experience all round. Highly recommended. Loved it.
We didn’t make use of the rooms or have an overnight stay so can’t comment, we only attended on the day for a spa treatment. I had the back and shoulder massage with Lucy and it was amazing, so relaxing, and Lucy was lovely. The ambience was very good. Phoebe on reception was extremely helpful and approachable, and assisted my mum with the stair lift as she is disabled. The actual facilities are very tired and could do with refurbishment. The wheelchair lift was out of order no sign on the door though! and the stair lift desperately needs replacing as it is temperamental and slow. This leaves customers with health conditions feeling unwelcome and excluded. Given the price point of Mercure hotels, I don’t think this is acceptable and is a real let-down for the spa. Nevertheless, Phoebe and Lucy were both fabulous. Keep it up ladies, you’re both doing amazing! Food & drinks: We had an afternoon tea on the day and this was nice but not a lot provided for £18.50 each!
Lovely well located hotel. Julie was great with booking. Lisa was so helpful and welcoming when we arrived. Ranjan and his team at breakfast were always so quick, kind and helpful. Lovely place to stay and so many weddings! Rooms: Lovely sizes, we had a lovely junior suite. Odd plugs round not normal UK square. Nearby activities: Peak District nearby with Caverns and Abraham Heights nearby plus beautiful towns. Walkability: Lovely grounds and lake. Noteworthy details: Well equipped gym older but well maintained. Small heater pool with sauna/ jacuzzi.
Rooms were nice, we were dog friendly so nothing amazing but clean bar some carpet stains. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bar menu was nice but very expensive 2 Burgers and 2 soft drinks £50 ouch. Breakfast was lovely. Nearby activities: Countryside walks.
We stayed for two nights and would be happy to return. After a frustrating and confused room allocation and dinner reservation we had a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed. We were glad to find that the breakfast buffet was great with a very reasonable selection of food. The coffee was excellent and the orange juice fresh. This was much to our relief as the previous evening we had seriously considered finding somewhere else to stay. All that said, the issues we had the first evening were all sorted out by friendly staff and we would not hesitate to return for another stay. The reason for only 4 stars on the service was due to the waiter's ineptitude on the Friday night. A couple of things could have been better but not enough to bring our star rating down. For a start when booking in at reception it might be an idea to be given a piece of paper with the times of the various things such as restaurant, bar, check-out etc rather than just getting them verbally as it can be a lot to remember, particularly as one usually expects these things to be in a folder in the room but in this case there was none. It meant we had to phone reception several times. The accessible bathroom was a good size although for some reason the wash-hand basin is very small. This means the kettle doesn't fit under the tap so, frustratingly, has to be filled using a mug. Maybe bottled water could be supplied? Otherwise, the room was well stocked with tea/coffee/milk etc. Rooms: The room with an accessible bathroom was a good size and well laid out. Food & drinks: The breakfast was great with decent coffee and fresh orange juice.
Lovely staff members, I wanted to decorate the room for a special occasion and Lisa was so kind, continuously asked me if I got the room how I wanted, how it went, all around lovely! Would definitely visit again, the grounds were beautiful and the pool, jacuzzi and sauna included in your stay! Quite hard to get a spa treatment, so be sure to book quite a while before your stay, it gets booked up easily. They even gave me an upgrade on my room for the occasion. Rooms: The staff gave me a free room upgrade for the occasion as a surprise! The privilege room is really spacious, I was more than happy with the lay out.
Stayed over the weekend for 2 nights with my partner to celebrate our anniversary. The staff were so friendly and went all out to decorate our room for the occasion, it was perfect thank you. Breakfast was delicious, those pancakes! Great variety of foods. We visited the spa on both mornings and the blonde lady on reception sorry didn't take a name she was so welcoming. Can't wait to visit again! Perfect.
I loved my first massage. Leanne was warm, welcoming and talked me through what to expect. The massage was lovely and I felt safe and respected. Has really helped me relax at the beginning of the school holidays! Charlotte on reception was helpful as I’d made a mistake when booking and missed my original time. She was very understanding and helped me rebook my treatment, which was much appreciated. Would definitely recommend!
