Had cause to stay at the Rutland Hotel as my wife had an appointment for tests at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital - so it was an anxious time for us. The hotel was perfectly placed only a short walk from the hospital which was the primary reason we booked it. We had travelled from Northern Ireland and so didn't know the area well. Our stay was comfortable with a clean room, which included a modern bathroom. There is no air conditioning, which we knew was the case. The staff were very pleasant and the breakfasts were delicious. It would be nice if there was a restaurant in the hotel for dining though. We ordered a pizza on our first night, which was delicious. The paid parking for our hire car was fine. Yes, the hotel is a little tired in places and could do with some tlc re the window frames and some decor, but this didn't affect our stay one iota. Bottom line is we'd have no qualms about staying again.... hopefully in somewhat less onerous circumstances...!
Good location but.. the shower did not work in room, we told reception who said it would be sorted while we were out for the evening, it wasn't. We mentioned it again in the morning with poor response so asked to move rooms. No apologies given. We were given another room where the shower worked but wasn't connected to the wall correctly. I'm sure this hotel was lovely in it's day but we found it tired and our experience did not match the price paid.
So I had surgery at The Royal Hallamshire this hotel was perfectly located and to be honest I had a cracking nights sleep night before my op. My wife stayed numerous nights in comfort but no frills. Well looked after and staff very helpful.Rooms: 3/5
It’s tired.. we had to move rooms as the shower didn’t work. No usb ports.. but as we were luckily staying 2 nights we got moved to a slightly better room, the staff were pleasant enough but offered no apologies for the inconvenience. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet but we were meeting other family members and there is no bar or evening meal to be had and I had to pay £3.00 for two bottles of water! Having said all that its situated in a fairly convenient area, and near bus stops. If you suffer from any kind of disability make sure you request a down stairs room there is no lift but that’s due to the age of the building. £9.00 parking charge but the grounds are pretty and I felt my vehicle was safe there.
From the moment we arrived we were treated so well. All the staff were professional but friendly and made us feel welcome. Our room was clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast was fabulous and we enjoyed a pizza one evening. We had originally booked in for three nights but needed to extend our stay. Tigger the Whippet was also welcomed when she joined us a couple of days in to our stay. What was a difficult time for us was made easier staying at the Rutland.
Let me store my luggage 4hrs before check-in time, which I most definitely appreciated. The room and bathroom are great, the grounds are amazing. Free WiFi and beverages replenished every day. Close to bus stop into town centre and 5-10min walk to the tram stop. Haven't tried the breakfast so no comment on that. Can't fault it to be honest. Ideal for visitors to the Hallamshire Hospital
Booked this hotel for its proximity to both Sheffield main hospitals. Really lovely hotel, well presented, clean and good decor. Friendly helpful staff. Really excellent value. We would definitely go back Nearby activities: Good Wetherspoons 5 minutes away and stunning botanical gardens around a 10 minute walk away
My wife booked to stay the day before our wedding with all her bridesmaids and we both booked to stay here on our wedding night as it was fairly close to our venue. The staff first advised us on the phone and via email that any guest staying with us from the wedding party would receive 10% off their booking. After several friends and family members started telling us they knew nothing about a wedding or 10% off, I decided to clarify. After a bit of back and forth, I asked for the manager, who confirmed that her name was the same name of the person who sent the confirmation emails to us! 10% was finally granted to guests but only AFTER I forwarded the email thread confirmation back to her as she'd lost it! The day before the wedding, I called to check all was good, to then be told that the suite we'd booked and paid for had an issue that wouldn't be resolved for us to stay. Now, I know this isn't their fault at all as these things happen, but they never attempted to call me to let me know for me to make other arrangements, if I'd have not called the day before, would I have been contacted? I think not. I then asked if they had another room that was as big as my bride and bridesmaids were to be getting ready in there on the morning of the wedding and to the same standard as that's what we'd chosen and paid for. I was advised that it was, in fact, better than the original room and was the same size. The brides sister had a newborn along with all the bags you need with a newborn as well as the bridesmaids bags, it was an absolute maze and trek to get to the room up and down flights of stairs and corridors. When she asked if there was an easier/shorter way as she'd cot there early and had NO help with bags, she was told no, sorry. When the bride showed up and asked for a shorter route due to her heavy dress, they advised her she could go through the fire exit directly to the car park! Because this wouldn't have been helpful to know with a baby and baby stuff!? When the rest of the bridal party and suppliers were arriving on the morning of the wedding, the receptionists had NO IDEA there was a wedding party, and sent them to an empty function room, resulting in lots of time wasted for preparation for the wedding. The bride was late to the ceremony because of this. We were told there were fans in the rooms when there were NOT fans in the room, so they were swelteringly hot and uncomfortable all night. Now, we did get a bottle of prosecco on the night before the wedding with rose petals, but it was THE NIGHT BEFORE THE WEDDING not the NIGHT OF the wedding... So kind of pointless? For the price I paid, the organisation and communication was poor. The room was OK, but very outdated and needed a decent spruce up, half the size of the room I'd booked and paid for, after being assured it would be the same size. No deductions of price for the different room offered or the 10% off we were offered previously. Breakfast was really good though... Pretty much the best thing about the stay I think. Massively disappointed overall. Food & drinks: Breakfast was really nice
Stayed here recently as had appointment at Hospital down the road. For the price I paid it was ideal. Comfortable, quiet, great shower and private parking at a charge of £9 but it is a busy City. Friendly staff. Yes it's a little dated and creaky in places but I would stay again.Rooms: 4/5
I've stayed here twice with work and really like this place. Large rooms, very comfortable beds, friendly helpful staff, and a great breakfast! For me, it does everything right. It feels more like an independent place, rather than a generic modern hotel, and that's part of the charm.Rooms: 5/5
