I lived in Aspley House for 2 years and while the room was a good size for money and fairly comfortable, I have a few complaints. The reception ladies in my 1st year were friendly and welcoming but they were replaced the following year. The ladies working there now are rude, lazy and unwelcoming. They claim reception is open from 8am-8pm Monday - Saturday but I have waited days sometimes to collect parcels because there isn't a staff member in the office. I didn't expect to have to work so hard to get post that belongs to me. When I moved into my room in September, it was dusty, the bathroom was filthy, and the blind was broken, despite being told my room had been 'professionally cleaned' and everything had been fixed. The maintenance team will fix about half of the things you report and the other half they claim to fix but are too lazy to do so. My blind was never fixed after reporting it several times throughout the year. And for the things they do fix, they come at the most inconvenient times they woke me up every time. In a flat of 4 people we shared 1 fridge/freezer so two of our flatmates had to share a single freezer drawer. One of the reasons that I lived here was to use the extra facilities they have. The gym although quite small was adequate for my usage but the cinema room was locked because it had 'broken lights' all year and we didn't get to go in there once. The security guards clearly had favourites. He told us to turn off the TV at 9pm because it was too loud, but when I called about a party in our block that was keeping me awake at 3am he didn't even bother to have a look. The location was great being so close to university but there are other university accommodations in the same area which I'm sure care more about their tenant's wellbeing than Aspley does.
I have lived at Aspley for the past year and a half, and highly recommend it as a place to live! The girls in reception are smiley, chatty and super helpful. Reception itself is always tidy and welcoming, decorated for every season, often with free promotion items which is always fun. Security are really nice and maintenance requests never take long to go through. The rooms are spacious, base level rooms are lovely and I’ve enjoyed mine over the past couple of years. Plus rooms are definitely worth the money if you can afford them though. The outdoors courtyard area is somewhere we have really enjoyed; often having BBQ’s and fires, we will really miss the social areas next year… and the on-site gym! The den is a fab place to be when it’s cold outside, ping-pong then pool followed by a movie in the cinema room is always fun - especially in the build up to Christmas. I am really looking forward to spending my summer here. Thank you to the team at Aspley for a lovely couple of years
I’ve lived here for 4 years now and I’ve had a great experience. The staff in the office are like friends, and they are welcoming, friendly people who always have a smile on their face. The security are nice and we’ve managed to form a bond with them too, even though we’re typical students who annoy them by doing stupid things. Like any other place, we have problems, but maintenance and/or the office don’t take long to sort it and all is resolved. Thank you for making my 4 years here feel like home and for listening to all of our problems. Highly recommend
I highly recommend to avoid this Not-a-very-high-iQ Student accommodation. Disrespectful and rude women in reception except for one lady, who was the only one that was not only polite but also knew what she was doing. I’m not sure if it makes them feel better about themselves or more powerful but they treat you like you’re an inmate and not a tenant. They have no respect for your privacy either, there were 2 occasions when someone just walked in without waiting when I was in the bathroom. Because of this I still feel anxious that someone will invade my space even though I don’t live there anymore. Spiders crawl in and there was a mouse in my flat once. Also I don’t know anybody who actually received a £150 prize for rebooking etc. My parcel was stolen once as well even though someone signed for it in reception. Another issue was that they forgot to give me my deposit back. Luckily a polite guy on the phone sorted it out for me when I reminded them 6 months or so later. Cleaning, maintenance and security staff are nice though. However, I still cringe every time I drive past the building. And no I do not wish to “contact you via email to discuss my review further”. But to make this review worth my time: I recommend implementing a better system for parcel collection and improving communication between staff members. Also maybe you should start recruiting people who are good at customer service?
Aspley is a great place for students to live. Only a five minute walk to the university, close to the town centre and the supermarkets its in an ideal location. Aspley also has great amenities such as a great common area that includes a pool table, table tennis, games room and a cinema! Rooms are spacious and have plenty of storage in the rooms! The staff are great! Great place to live would highly recommend to anyone
Brilliant student accommodation! The reception staff are absolutely fantastic, had quite a few problems with bulbs needing replacing in every light in the flat, an overstaying international student in the first week and a broken hoover. The reception sorted the lights promptly, apologised for the inconvenience with the overstaying tenant by filling our fridge and replaced our hoover straight away with a new one. Can't rave about the staff enough! Really well placed accommodation near to uni, very secure also. The non-refurbished flats are a little tired looking but still comfy and a good size. The refurbished flats are absolutely gorgeous, you get what you pay for with those really! I've not had any problem with the silverfish mentioned and reception have offered powder if anyone finds them.
Nice accommodation that's perfect for students as right next to university and very close to town centre. Staff have always been lovely and never had any problems with the flat.
This is a perfect location for student accommodation. Well built, secure and very smart. You can definitely relax if your kids are staying here
I've lived at Aspley the last two years and I really like it. The staff are always on hand to help and very friendly. The facilities are great, spend a lot of time with friends in the cinema or playing pool. It's been a fun experience and would recommend it to anyone.
What can I say other then terrible. I wanted to view a room and the staff told me no they were fully booked up from the next year I asked if I could still see a show room or something just because I’d traveled there and they shrugged me off and said no. By what I’ve heard around Huddersfield I’m glad I didn’t stay here anyway. Rules to follow in the common room and your own flat your not aloud parties in the kitchens which is stupid to say it’s part of student life security are always on the prowl looking for something to report no matter how small and drug use in the buildings is also a problem
