Our meals were awesome, my 28 day aged steak was one tastiest and tenderest I have had in a long time, I didn't risk putting the accompanying stilton sauce over my steak, even though that was excellent tasting as well. My daughter had a stuffed Chicken accompanied with asparagus wrapped in parma ham in a cream mushroom sauce, which was also superb, the only disappointed person was my wife she settled on gammon and egg and though she enjoyed thoroughly she wished she had chosen something more adventurous off the excellent varied menu. The bottle of Malbec we had was top quality as well. Highly recommend this place, it was our first visit but we are there again this weekend. Quality food in the setting of a country pub atmosphere.
What a wonderful lunchtime treat! The halumi burger was probably the best I've had anywhere. My partner's rump steak wrap was amaaaazing! We shall return xFood: 5/5
Having read lots of good reviews decided to give it a try. Very disappointed. The pub was absolutely freezing, the middle winter and they had 2 tea lights in the fireplace instead of a welcoming fire and no heating was evident, had to eat with my coat on as I was sat near the door and every time the door was opened there was a really cold draft which did not help the temperature. My meal arrived and for the pensioners special it was reasonably priced but had to sent the butter for my roll back as it had a big black hair on it. Highlighted this to the waitress who was clearly not concerned, the butter was exchanged but no apology.
Popped in whilst in the area as was hungry and thirsty. Left still feeling hungry because I wasn't paying that much for some bar food. The prices for the food were restaurant prices, now it did smell good I'll give them that, but for a simply bowl of chips you're talking almost a tenner. Staff were friendly, and pub was nice. Small and tidy. Bar area was very small though so I can imagine it could get very crowded. Dogs welcome which is also a nice touch. I would go again for a drink, but I wouldn't go hungry
Always love the food at The Holt but had the special surf & turf today & it was exceptional. Hope this comes a regular on the menu . Service & ambience fabulous as always
Went to steak night, food good but the pub itself was cold, that cold that our food was cold before we finished it. In the middle of January you would expect the fires to be on . The radiators were lukewarm although they must have turned them up after I asked why the fire was unlit [ explanation given was that people dining near fire would be too hot ]. Quite a lot of people dining with coats on, including me. Needless to say we didn`t stay for a sweet or another drink, went home to get warm. Very disappointed as this was an anniversary dinner.
My husband and I stumbled across this gorgeous little place today whilst out for a drive. First impressions, a cosy place bursting with character, friendly attentive staff. We were shown to our table and given menus, decided on a turkey roast and can whole heartedly say it was the best roast I've had. A real home made roast and massive portions, crispy yet fluffy roasties real mashed potatoes succulent turkey and tasty gravy all made for a very enjoyable Sunday lunch. 5 stars all round. We will definitely be back.
We stopped off here as it was recommended by a local, so I expected it would be good. Always better to ask the locals! Waitress staff ie the two Lauren's and Beth were so efficient and friendly. Food was plentiful, I chose the salt and pepper chicken burger, my wife the oriental burger. Nice "proper chips" as it said on the menu. Very busy pub which is a good sign! Will call again. A fine hostelry, hand pumped ales and traditional pub feel.
Had an enjoyable lunch, nice atmosphere with open fires in this historic pub. We'll come again. TY
Tuesday steak night is great value for money! 2 rump steaks, home made chips, onion rings, field mushroom and a bottle of wine for £31.95. Great quality ingredients. Faultless customer service.
