I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn for couple of nights and couldn't be more pleased. I was greeted by the warm and friendly staff - The Manager, Omar & Reception Team & Bar & Restaurant Team were so friendly, helpful & professional. The room is modern, with all the amenities I needed, I appreciated a big hairdryer, convenient hand shower, and quiet air conditioning, small touches that made a big difference—options some hotels in Derby don’t have. The food was fresh, tasty, and nicely presented, arriving at my table in time. I have decided to make it my go-to hotel from now on. Highly recommended!
Just short of a 4 star review for a 4 star hotel. During our stay at the end of May 2024, the hotel was undergoing changes to the aircon units, thus making the walk through the hotel and room, somewhat uncomfortable. The room itself was quite spacious, allowing enough space to put 3 large suitcases down, as well as an extra bed, with enough room to walk around. My parents room was located right next to the bus depot, which they were not informed of, and was quite noisy in the mornings. My room however, was located in the centre of the building which had no noise at all. Breakfast selection is quite poor for a 4 star hotel and could be better, quality wise. We had dinner on our last night, and the male staff and female staff at the bar were so lovely and accommodating. The food however, was quite poor, quality wise. I had ordered the beef brisket, which was rather tough. My son and father had ordered the pepperoni pizza, which lacked pepperoni and was quite tough. The burger and chips was probably the nicest tasting dish of the evening. There is discounted rates for parking when parked at the Derbion underground car park, which is less than a 10 minute walk away. Head up to level 4 to enter your number plate to access the discount. It is best to park in front of the hotel and unload your suitcases before parking your vehicle as the pathways are quite uneven. Overall, a nice central hotel for Derby, but could do with some touch ups on quality.
I booked this hotel at 1am for a 3am check in. I just needed a double bed for me and my husband to sleep and carry on our travels the next day. Upon arriving I was told the double bed I had booked was no longer available and they only had a twin room which I said I didn’t want because it wasn’t what I booked, anyway I believe his name was Ash, the night desk staff and he was kind and efficient enough to move some things around and get us a double bed. That being said I was awaken at 9am by a knock from housekeeping. I jumped out of bed so scared that we had missed check out and opened the door for her to say “sorry I thought the room was empty”. I was so annoyed I couldn’t go back to sleep, so we went for breakfast, again it’s advertised as a buffet but we were told the hotel was quite empty so they were doing hot food to order, which was very disappointing. Very few options of fruit and 2 mini pain au chocolat for both me and my husband left, no other pastries. My husband only wanted scrambled eggs with toast and when he ordered that it came very watery in a tiny bowl as if it had been sitting there for a while and full of black pepper and no salt. I do not understand if you have food ready why not have it out for guests to choose how and how much they want of it? I then went on to speak to what seemed to be the manager about this housekeeping incident and I asked if they don’t have a sheet with rooms occupied, he said they have all the rooms which are due to check out and from 9am they have the right to knock at every room to see if it’s still occupied and if I didn’t want to be disturbed I should have used the “do not disturb” sign on the door, so I said: well ok is that a policy? Is it written anywhere? He said no. So this manager is telling me if you’re a guest of their hotel on your check out day you cannot sleep past 9am unless you have a sign in the door. After this again very disappointing experience I went back to my room to pack and guess what? Housekeeping was COMING OUT OF MY ROOM, they had been inside!! so I said you already knocked, it’s still occupied we haven’t left yet, so again she mentioned the do not disturb sign. I’m so annoyed I’ve never had a more stressing experience in a hotel than this one and I TRAVEL for work. It’s a ridiculous policy that they created in their own head and forgot to communicate to guests. At no point in time I was apologised to. Unless you wanna be up at 6am do not book this hotel. Also ironically there was no hot food buffet because the hotel was “empty” but we were told late checkout wasn’t available as they were “fully booked”
The mattress was that bad I was forced to change room, the springs were completely gone. They were very accommodating with the request although I would have much preferred a decent mattress in the first place. The room was average - old smallish tv with no netflix or hdmi ports. Mini gym was fine and location of hotel was good for access to city centre. Nearest parking is at NCP Siddals Road, it's a 4 minute walk and cost £3.95 for 24hrs if using the app.
My room was directly above the bus depot so it was a very noisy night. You would need to be a very heavy sleeper for it not to affect you, so these rooms really should come with a warning and a discounted rate. Unfortunately, my bed was also pretty uncomfortable as the mattress that spanned across the two single beds to make king size was thin and old and lumpy. Good location for the town but I scored it down because it is also very close to the bus depot! Service was good for checkin albeit a bit weird being on the 4th floor! and breakfast. Cleanliness was spot on
The hotel is centrally located to explore Derby City Centre. Reception is on the 4th floor, which is a strange place for it. The restaurant I never used, however, there's a good variety for a continental and full English breakfast. The city centre has a variety of restaurants to suit most taste. I'm not sure about shopping in general as I was here on business. The demise of UK city centres is in full swing here with a dystopian society taking over once the shoppers have gone home.
Probably fine, but stayed on hottest day of the year so far, and their Air conditioning is being overhauled. There was a fan and they provided water, so not too badRooms: 3/5

It  Included lots of options.I Looked forward to the latte every morning Overall we had such a pleasant experience we definitely will be staying here again. Just want to stay thank you to all the lovely staff for making our stay so comfortable and wonderful :
Mine was business stay here for more than a month. Min 2 day in a week woken up by the fire alarm in the middle of night or in early mornings. Not a Secure place for guests, Location is a drawback for this Holiday Inn. Car Parking is not available, had to relay on Derbion Mall parking. Any anonymous can get into any floor by stairs. Once a stranger was sleeping in walkway. But felt un secure. Anyone can get into the building till your room door. Also the entire hotel is being renovated I think, not all rooms are temperature controlled. Most of the time fire alarm keep buzzing. Lifts often get out of service. Only few staffs are friendly ! Stay for a day you will get to know. Rooms: Not clean, mostly stained floor and walls. TVs are pathetic. Alam Get auto on in middle of night. Safety: Not a safe place. Any outsider can get into a building. Also there are many homeless people get access to building. Food & drinks: No change in menu often the coffee machine not working
Perfect location for us visiting the Gin and Rum festival and close to a few bars. Special mention it Omar and Frank with their exceptional service and friendliness. Rooms: Standard holiday inn, clean and quiet. Nearby activities: Na Walkability: Perfect walking distance to the gin and rum festival and some bars. Food & drinks: Food was small portion but really nice. Noteworthy details: Excellent service by Omar and Frank.
