Great pub over looking the cricket pitch, easy 5 minutes from a walk on the Ridgeway. Had lunch, sausage baguette filled with lots of sausages. Landlord is pleasant enough, could smile a bit, but maybe he was having a sad day?
Really good food and atmosphere! They did a great vegan chilli for me and it was delicious. Staff were polite and accommodating. Great range of ales and beer.
What a brilliant place, I thoroughly recommend the food on offer and wish I lived closer in order to savour more of the menu. I was enjoying lunch with friends who have recently moved to Newbury who had come across this gem of a country pub . .. guess there'll be more lunch meets arranged here. I won't object. Keep up the good work - it's a joy
Great local pub and a perfect detour if you're walking the Ridgeway. We stopped for lunch and had a good selection from the menu. The fish and chips were good and there were several veggie options the tart was tasty!. There's a couple of ales on offer too, and I can recommend a half of the Wainwright to go with your lunch. Looks like a great spot for summer with a nice beer garden and views across the village cricket field
I stopped by during a one day cycle from Wales to London in the hope of a Sunday roast, and am I glad I did! The kitchen was closing but the staff made an effort to accommodate me and get me a full lunch regardless. Everyone - including the locals - was friendly and my only regret was that I couldn't hang around longer to enjoy some cricket on the green opposite.
Lovely Home Cooked Food
Great pub in a super spot opposite cricket pitch and duck pond.with very welcome Sunday roast. Nice veggie options too. Pull off the A34 to break your journey here rather than any of the services!
I can see why there are mixed reviews of the staff. The lady behind the bar is lovely and helpful. The chap in charge however is utterly dreadful, and shouldn't be running a pub. I'm assuming that the rest of the business works really well, as they wouldn't be operating. However, I chose to leave and go somewhere else nearby where they all were pleasant and everything else was good too
Nice pub in a rural village. A good place to watch a cricket match from the tables outside and enjoy a beer.
A delightful countryside pub overlooking the cricket pitch. We stopped in here after a long and tiring diversion during one of the M4's unending road works...a warm welcome, and some lovely food, lifted our spirits immensely.
