This place has the most amazing cakes! We usually have the Snickers cake, but there are lots of delicious cakes to choose from. The caramel cheesecake is another favourite. The staff are really lovely and friendly. I've never had a hot meal here, so can't comment on that aspect, but if you want a lovely cup of tea or hot chocolate and a yummy dessert you can't get much better than this place.
This is probably one of the most dismal experiences I've had in London in a very long time. 3 of us visited on a Sunday afternoon a week ago. To name just a few highlights: - Ordered cream tea tea + scone - got a bland scone with some seemingly out-of-date clotted cream, which has just been taken out of a freezer. When I've politely inquired about it the owner ? rather rudely insisted everything's fine saying he can show me how it's stored; Sorry but it's none of my problem - it's you whose "clotted cream" is rock solid. Anyhow, he finally took the packet back and returned a few moments later. Believe he just put it in a microwave for a few seconds. Picture attached. - Latte - a friend's order of a latte took ~30mins and 4 inquiries about it - General level of hygiene - poor. Restrooms are borderline shocking when paying heard other people in front of me complaining about it too; I can also see the kitchen behind the counter with stacks upon stacks of dirty plates etc. Basically, this place has absolutely nothing going for it except location and opening hours on a Sunday - I would actively encourage people to avoid it at all costs. Looking at other reviews my sense is someone has just taken over a previously well-run and -regarded place and is now trying to squeeze whatever is left of the business.
Totally abysmal. Don’t go. The service is really, really bad and extremely slow. We said we had a voucher and they seemed not to know what it was. They just kept asking us what we wanted even though we had already booked. Not given plates / forks and the person at the next table had the same problem. The cakes and scones were hard we assume frozen. It’s also really scruffy inside which is surprising for such a great location. The toilets smell. It was generally chaos.
Well worth a visit for freshly prepared and cooked food. spinach and lentil soup seriously good, I know you don't like lentils and you can't stand spinach but honestly forget the ingredients enjoy the flavour. I'm sure they do everything themselves it's all so good. A pleasure to have a meal where both can have and enjoy what they want, damn fine cooking.
Ok little place for tea, not fancy or too special. Service was amazing, carrot cake is highly recommended from my experience. The rest of the food is not amazing, though. Place could use a bit of an upgrade in terms of decor, located in a cute corner of London I feel like it could be and do so much more but it's wasting potential.
English breakfast here is good value and a hearty feed. Decor OK, supports local artists which is good. Friendly staff. This place used to be a genuine old tea room with a big cake display in the window. Nostalgia demands the Hampstead Tea Rooms should try to recover a sense of their origin.
Left speechless. Ordered a Full English and I was presented with raw eggs to which I took back was told I would be given another well done but I was brought back two things that looked like they’d just left Chernobyl. The sausages were severely undercooked too and full of bristle which was completely new to me. The rest of the breakfast was swimming in oil took 2-3 bites, stood up and walked out. Never again. Oh one more thing, they’re clearly tax dodging, this was £9.45 paid with a £10 note the waitress had to pull out the calculator, had she used the till it would have told her the correct change due however I stepped in and told her, I was given 54p in change btw. Small and probably petty but had this experience been anything near what o expected from an establishment in this area it would have only gone towards the tip.
Not sure I went to the same place as all the other reviews! I went today and took a friend with me. On the plus side I had rung before and asked if I could bring my dog and the man I spoke to said she would be welcome and we could sit inside with her. We had a Groupon voucher for a cream tea. When we arrived we were directed to seats that you had to step down a very low step and seemed to be under the stairs. One of the seats was a bench and really not suitable to sit on for a long time, besides we had come for a treat, not to sit it what resembled a school dinner hall. I asked if we could sit at one of the other tables, the place was empty and we were then asked if we wanted to sit outside instead. I said inside would be great if that was ok. After that no-one spoke to us again, the tea was brought to us. One scone each, very salty and slightly stale and a small pot of tea between the two of us. We did each have a small tub of cream and a small pot of jam. We couldn't wait to leave as we felt we were intruding. The place has a very grand name for what was a huge disappointment. I had bought two vouchers but I certainly won't be using the second one.
Great little spot, friendly staff. Very unpretentious while still having its charm. Pretty standard menu but well made food.
I love this place. Nothing special from the outside, but the owners and staff makes it feel extremely special. Every time I get a chance, I stop by. And they have have almond and soya milk for my latte! Love! They have free WiFi and some plugs for computers.
