Hackney Central

Story

Central was a railway station near the Royal Albert Dock and Beckton Park, in east London. It was served by the London & St. Katharine Docks Company and was located between Connaught Road and Manor Way stations, on the Gallions branch of the line.Central station was opened on 3 August 1880. It had few passenger services, which ceased in 1940 due to wartime bombing, while the goods line ceased operation with the closure of the Royal Docks. With the redevelopment of the Docklands area in the 1980s and 1990s, the line was replaced in 1994 by the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) extension to Beckton. No trace of Central station remains, although Beckton Park DLR station is currently situated on or very close to the site.

Love Hackney and always travel here whenever around. Overground trains made us east to travel here. Trains are frequent and easy journey. Sometimes enjoy the sunset from the station.nIt’s a basic station with two platforms at the end of walkway/alleyway. It’s always crowded and ticket machine is not enough for that crowd. Few barriers for big crowd in and out. Sometimes you need to wait to be out of station.nWalkway to Hackney Downs overground station is at the end of platform 2 other end to the station exit which is quicker than going via the road.
I really like the east end. Hackney is very vibrant and always alive.nA place where you can find pretty much everything you need and things you enjoy doing it.nThe Hackney town center is located right in the middle in a beautiful building with some very interesting architecture style and some hidden history gems inside.nFood, drinks, fun and enjoyable area with a very diverse community that brings a variety of cultural influences and experiences.
Like most Overground stations that connect two lines, Hackney Central is super convenient although it’s not immediately obvious if you’ve never been here before, there is a direct walkway linking it with Hackney Wick in 2-3 minutes.nnEspecially interesting is that the old station building is now a bar, restaurant and nightclub! I will say that means the “main” station entrance is now a mildly creepy alleyway, but that doesn’t seem to bother anyone.nnIf my review or photos were useful please leave a thumbs up Thanks!
pretty average station. Two decent entrances/exits. Decent staff. Decent enough shelter/rain cover. No shop but plenty nearby.
This station is on the Stratford - Clapham Junction/Richmond line on the London Overground near to Mare Street.nnOne of entrances to the station is accessible via a walkway/alley just off Amhurst Road. It isn't the most glamorous of walkways, but it is step-free. Use this entrance if you want to get a train going to Stratford. If you want to get a westbound train, use the entrance on Graham Road.nnThere are two platforms and a bridge for passengers to access either platform within the station. There is a lack of shelter on both platforms, so you will get wet if it is raining unless you huddle under the bridge.nnThis is a very basic station, not many frills here.
