Had a lovely visit to the Gold Medal with family, there was a few of us and they were more than happy to accomodate despite not having booked last minute decision! They even pulled some tables together and made space for those in the group who needed a tad more space. Food is pretty much same options as other hungry horse pubs, but there is such a selection on the menu that I think you could go all week and have something different each time! I went for the dipper burger which is basically a chicken burger stack with gravy... it was very nice! Price as with other hungry horse pubs was very reasonable. My only issue was that I attempted to use the app on this occasion but not all the menu selections appeared on the app, I went back to the trusty option of just going to the till but still a bit annoying when I went to effort to download etc! Worth a visit if you want a good value family meal out in my opinion. It's not gourmet, but your also not paying gourmet prices... and more likely my kids will eat the food!!
Been before and again, met with really friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Nice size meals, food was cooked to our requirements, and the menu seems quite quirky as well. Not far from the Angel of The North either. Bus stop not far away to take you into the city centre. Good location for a pub. Will call again.
Well well well, what a disappointment! My partner usually enjoys this place whereas I'm a little more reserved about the types of customers the place attracts. Can be very rowdy at times but the food is generally pretty decent. Upon my visit today we weren't sure if we had to find our own table or if we'd be escorted. The menu is very small with some unusual foods. After finding a seat by the TV it was freezing as we were under the air conditioning unit. Once I chose my meal I proceeded to the till where there were two customers in front of me and it took 15 minutes to reach me , upon trying to order my curry I was told there was no rice, I went to order a coffee and there was no milk. Plus a 30 minute delay due to a leak in the kitchen. I was very hungry and decided to leave without ordering
Just had lovely fish and chips takeout tonight. The batter on the fish was nice and crispy and the chips and mushy peas were nice and hot. Will definitely order them again as much better than a fish and chip shop.
First time I've been. Went with my Parents and my daughters after visiting graves in Saltwell Cemetery. Lovely decor friendly attentive staff. Food was good pub food. Didn't have any pictures taken of meals like I usually do but I dare say il be back soon no hesitations there.
Our food took 40 minutes to arrive and turns out the order hadn’t gone through properly on the app but no one came to clarify with us until we enquired. One of the team leaders was snappy with the other staff and interrupted me while I was ordering. The food was not worth the wait and we didn’t eat it all. In particular, we ordered vegan food and it tasted like the corn on the cob was cooked in butter. A fight broke out this is not reflected in the rating and the only member of floor staff and a cook were the two to respond while the three other kitchen staff watched and team leaders continued to work the bar. A positive shoutout to Katie, though. I couldn’t commend her enough! She was the only person on the floor and was doing an amazing job. More importantly she went above and beyond her role, attempting to separate the fight and bringing children inside to protect them. She shouldn’t have had to do this alone, but credit to her for taking control of the situation and keeping people inside and safe.
Food lovely, staff great. Same problems with the tills as last time we were here 3 years ago, but it would be a minor niggle. Nice place to go for lunch.
Short notice catch up with my son up from Rochdale, great menu as he is vegetarian service and staff second to none really nice atmosphere and very welcoming and best coffee I've ever had. Highly recommended.
Always decent food and very reasonably priced too. Staff are friendly and attentive. Family friendly. Would recommend!
