One of the best National Trust locations I have been too. Fantastic for a family day out with plenty to do. Easy to find and lots of parking. It’s great for all ages. When I last went we had a large family day out where the kids aged varied from 1.5yrs to about 11 and all had fun, as did the adults! With it been local I am sure it will be a place we will visit many times, especially in the summer however this is a place that can be visited any time of the year. It’s certainly one of the best benefits of living in the NE and been National Trust members!

The grounds at Gibside are gorgeous and the most memorable part of this visit was the birds - Red Kites just soaring above all afternoon and we also discovered the bird hide towards the liberty column which was literally swarming with a variety of wildlife, both bird and the cutest tiny mouse in a log pile! An extra special mention for the amazing customer service we received throughout the visit especially from a lady called Catherine who had already finished her shift (nearly an hour later) and still had the time to talk to the very excited 9year old Ava Gabrielle who had completed the Easter trail (although very near closing time) and sorted out the prize with a smile! The National Trust should be very proud of their customer care team here and especially Catherine! Excellent day out, thank you! x🌳☀🌸🐦🐑🐰💜🌻🍀x

Gibside is a National Trust site. If you want to visit you'll have to either be a member or pay the entry fee. Once on the estate however, it's a great family day out and dog walkers paradise. The house is a burned shell from the fire in the early 1900's but the architectural structure remains to be enjoyed. The estate is a large one with a plethora of walks for all of the family to enjoy, there is even a forest ropes course for small and big kids to enjoy!
Especially in the summer months the promenade and various green areas are a fantastic space to spend with the family. Gibside would be a 5 star if the house could still be explored in the same way that Cragside can.

It had been wet and miserable for days before, so some of the paths were closed, but had a lovely walk round. Was incredibly lucky enough to watch from the bird hide a lamb been born - initially was abandoned by its mother, the rangers appeared and stayed in field and watched and waited (as did we). Eventually as the lamb tried to attach it's self to another sheep the mother decided to come over. Nice cuppa tea after that to end our day.

Great day out. Only disappointment was that some of the walks were closed because of work and there were no notices to this effect at the entry point. Cafe good but long queue for coffee because only one person able to operate the machine.
