Went here for my sister birthday, a large group of us, most of us first time visitors. We will definitely be returning. The food was out of this world, freshly made and arrived super quickly The service was excellent and absolutely loved the decor. Very friendly owner. Would 100% recommend. It would be such a lovely place to visit in the summer.
Lovely old pub, log fire, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Good meal and pudding, bit mean with the gravy and sauce lol.. Everyone asked for more which meant a lot of running about for the staff..... Would recommend without hesitation.
PROS: A lovely cosy pub with a gorgeous hearth in the middle. Amazing if you can get the spot. Me and mah bébè didn't get the food but it looked delish, especially the Sunday roast. We had planned to visit rival pub The Plough but decided to stay due to said cosiness. 90% of staff were lovely, except for the trifling beesh who mixed herself up in our cosy business. See below CONS: We were pretty much kicked out because we hadn't ordered food, but we were ordering drinks the whole way through. Why kick out paying customers just to sell an extra roast?
Visited this pub for a pit stop in the middle of our journey. There is parking available but it is limited. So you might need to wait a while for someone to leave. Ordered a steak sandwich which was delicious.
Great restaurant, brilliant food and atmosphere. Met some friends here on a cold December afternoon and the fire was roaring, the staff were great and very helpful..
Was there Monday night, very nice atmosphere, very nice staff, good service. My friend and I fancyed the Hunters chicken. It looked very good when arrived. However, the chicken was over cooked and a bit chewy. The chicken was in a small tin filled with BBQ sauce..the source had destroyed any flavour..disappointing. Also very very hot, nearly burned my tounge Upon telling the waitress, she agreed, as she had it too, and told the chef about this before.. Upon paying, I checked the bill, to find each meal had been charge extra for the potato wedges, I question it and the waitress said it did say on the menu. The print on the menu is very small. I would go back again, but not sure I eat there. No point making a complaint, as nothing done about it.
The landlord locals called toad so a local told me isn't a motorcycle fan. He will happily take motorcyclist £££ in the summer months, but you park your bike outside his pub and walk away. The man is out straight away. The landlord before him and this is going back some years was more than happy with me parking my motorcycle outside the pub go to the tearoom next door when Rita owned it get my coffee and sit on one of he's tables outside in winter months, he would even come out and sit and chat with me. However You do get treated differently by staff and the landlord when you walk into the pub without leathers on as the wife and I found out when we went there in the car one Sunday for lunch, which was nice food tbh. But it's the only place so far we as a biking couple have been to with motorcycle gear on and felt like we were not really welcome tbh. Could just be us, but we both felt the same. This is my opinion only. I understand some people don't like bikers. I get that 100%, but if it's a bikers centre point to meet, have a coffee and maybe lunch, try and be welcoming to us. If we all stop going to Finchingfield, your pub goes . As I said, this is my own opinion . It's a shame, really tbh, as it's a nice village pub with great food
Lovely pub, great location, terrific food and great service. A perfect spot for a stop if you're in the area.
We had a fab Valentine's meal at the Fox last night, the food was wonderful, the steak was one of the best I have had in a long time, loved it, great service and atmosphere too :
We came for a last minute roast, and when i tell you the service was awful. Felt like we wasn’t being noticed at all and just walked past as in the managers words we where just “walk ins” made us feel so uncomfortable and was so patronising when asking simple questions and then kept touching my shoulder and stuff to reassure me that we hadn’t don’t anything wrong. In my eyes you shouldn’t go into any pub and have to ask if you as customers have done something wrong. We told one of the ladies that we felt uncomfortable and we wanted to leave and she was understanding, the manager comes out and starts taking photos of my car, there was no communication in their team to how they had made us feel. When speaking to manangment about how we feel they were so defensive when we was just trying to be nice.
